A 29-year-old Mount Prospect father has been charged in the beating of his 5-month-old boy and will face more serious charges if the infant dies, authorities said today.
Ibrahim Kibayasi, of the 1700 block of Sable Lane in the northwestern suburb, was charged with aggravated battery of a child, a Class X felony. On Monday, his bond was set at $2 million, police said.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services notified Mount Prospect police Friday that the child was brought to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge by fire department paramedics "for injuries consistent with physical abuse associated with shaken baby syndrome," police said in a news release.
The infant remains in critical condition.
Police described Kibayasi as the child's biological father. The mother was not charged.
Kibayasi's' next court date is Wednesday.
