CATLETTSBURG, Ky. (WSAZ) – A father charged with the death of 2-year-old daughter will spend the next seven years in prison.

In June 2012, John T. Elliott, Jr,. 31, Catlettsburg was arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter in the death of his daughter, Summer Adkins.

Adkins died in March 2012. The autopsy report called Summer’s death homicide by compression.

Earlier this month during a plea hearing, Ellliot admitted he suffocated his daughter to stop her from crying.

Friday, he was sentenced.

Boyd County Commonwealth Attorney David Justice says the plea was accepted after the two paternal aunts approved of the deal.

Justice says the aunts were, “The only relatives who expressed concern for the child.” The aunts are Elliott’s sisters.
