A father was charged with aggravated child abuse Tuesday after being accused of punishing his 7-year-old daughter by holding her hand on a hot stove, according to Broward court records.

Roberto Paul, 31, was also charged with resisting arrest with violence and his bond was set at more than $100,000 on Wednesday.

According to the arrest report read in court, Paul was, "maliciously punishing the child and knowingly causing permanent disfigurement to the child."

The girl was punished for wearing her sister's shirt, Broward Judge John "Jay" Hurley read. "[Paul] took her left hand, held it to a hot stove coil and permanently disfigured the child's hand by burning the child's hand," he said. "The child struggled to be released from [Paul's] grip."

The judge paused and took a deep breath after reading the arrest report.

Hurley pointed out there were no other witnesses to the child abuse so he ordered Paul to stay away from his daughter if he bonds out of jail.

"There is a certain level of danger she is in right now if you're released from custody," Hurley said during Paul's Wednesday morning court appearance.

Paul also was ordered not to make contact, directly or indirectly, with his daughter.
