Dad arrested for leaving 2-year-old in car while he hit the casino (Sacramento, California)

Whoa. Is this a custodial dad? If not, what happened to Mom? Why is the little girl now in the custody of CPS if Mom wasn't off gambling and abandoning a toddler in the car?

Dad is identified as JOSEPH PAIVA.

Father in casino suspected of leaving 2-year-old in car

A man was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment after allegedly leaving his 2-year-old daughter in a car for more than an hour while he was inside a casino really early Wednesday morning.

At 1:41 a.m., on the 6000 block of Stockton Boulevard, police officers were hailed by a security guard who noticed movement in a parked vehicle in the area. Upon investigation, police found a girl, 2, unharmed, who'd apparently been left in the vehicle for more than an hour.

Her father, Joseph Paiva, 25, was found at a nearby business – the Lotus Casino – and arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment. The girl was placed into the custody of child protective services.
