Dad charged in death of 8-week-old daughter (Providence, Rhode Island)

Dad CHRISTOPHER JIMINEZ is being charged in the death of his infant daughter. Sounds like Mom is being charged with basic failure to protect. Which is assuming she could protect an infant against a violent man....

A Providence father is due back in court Monday to face new charges. His appearance comes after his baby daughter died over the weekend.

Christopher Jiminez, has already been charged with first-degree child abuse. Now the 26-year-old father will be facing new charges, connected to his baby's death.

Eight-week-old Christina Jimenez was allegedly abused by her father. She has been in the hospital since June 20, when authorities responded to the family's home on Congress Ave in Providence.

The infant suffered severe injuries, including broken ribs and brain swelling, and had been in a coma until her family decided over the weekend to take the infant off of life support.

Some relatives told NBC 10, her father Christopher Jimenez, had accidentally dropped her, but authorities charged him with first-degree child abuse.

A week later, the baby's mother, Mayra Gonzalez, was charged with felony child neglect.

Christopher Jimenez is being held on $100,000 surety bail. He was scheduled to be in court Friday for a motion to reduce bail, but now he'll be facing new charges later Monday.

The baby's mother Mayra Gonzalez is due in court later this week.
