Dad pleads guilty to 2nd-degree manslaughter in death of 3-month-old daughter (Richmond, Kentucky)

Dad PAUL FARTHING JR. was initially charged with 1st-degree murder, but has settled for pleading guilty to a 2nd-degree manslaughter charge. No mention of where Mom was while Daddy was bathing the baby.

RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) - A Madison County man has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in the death of his infant daughter.

Prosecutors had obtained a first-degree murder indictment against 31-year-old Paul Farthing Jr.in the death a year ago of 3-month-old Rylee Jean Campbell, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Farthing had contended the child slipped out of his hands as he bathed her in a sink. The baby died at University of Kentucky Hospital.

He pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter on Thursday. Sentencing is scheduled for May 12 and the prosecutor is recommending 10 years in prison.
