Dad arrested for abusing 2-month-old child--after police standoff with knife; then let out on bond (Conway, South Carolina)

Dad MARTIN RESENDEZ sound like yet another one of those volatile idiots who should not be around children or other living things. This guy "allegedly" inflicts non-accidental head injuries and a leg fracture on his 2-month-old baby--an infant who is scarcely more than a newborn. And when the police attempt to arrest him on child abuse charges, Daddy pulls the big Daddy Drama Police Standoff Thing--he even barricades himself in his bedroom and STABS HIMSELF in the chest--just for the extra theatrical umph, you know. Okay, maybe he's just crazy. But I digress.

At any rate, Daddy is not as crazy as the courts and the police. After this guy is treated for his self-inflicted wounds. THEY RELEASE HIM ON BOND. Oh joy, oh rapture. Just the kind of fruit we want floating around in the batter, right? And then they turn around and arrest the mother, basically for failure to protect against this crazy! A guy who's nuts enough to stab himself in the chest to avoid arrest! Just what do you think he was capable of doing to her, hmm? And do you think she did not know that? And just what just do you expect her to realistically do to keep this child safe? Especially when the "system" lets Daddy back out on the streets almost immediately?

Lets get real. Mothers are set up by the system to fail. They're called vindictive liars and/or "alienators" when they report child abuse. They're forced into joint custody if they leave these guys, or even sole father custody in some cases, meaning the mothers can't even do minimum oversight. And if they are overwhelmed with protecting the child when a volatile violent nut job is still living in their home, they are persecuted for not finding a way to keep the child safe. Nevermind that the authorities will consistently undermine every effort they make.

CONWAY — A local man who tried to stab himself instead of being taken into custody is facing charges related to child abuse.

Martin Resendez, 24, of Conway, was arrested Feb. 2 by the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office and charged with three counts of child abuse inflicting serious injury. He is free on $125,000 secured bond and is due in court March 31.

Capt. Daryl Harmon, chief detective for the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, said Resendez’ arrest stems from an investigation that began in January, when the Northampton County Department of Social Services contacted the sheriff’s office to report injuries of a non-accidental nature to a 2-month-old child.

The child, Harmon said, was suffering from a broken leg and injuries to the head, and had been taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

“That’s when we became aware of it, when the child was in Pitt County Memorial Hospital,” Harmon said.

The investigation led to warrants on Resendez, the child’s father, but when deputies went to arrest Resendez on Jan. 27, he barricaded himself in his bedroom and stabbed himself in the chest with a large folding knife, according to Harmon. Resendez was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital and underwent treatment.

“When he was ready to be released, the hospital contacted us,” Harmon said. “We went and got him.”

Resendez was taken into custody at the hospital and brought to the Northampton County Detention Center, where he was later released after posting bond.

Det. Sgt. Lynette Clements, who investigated the case, served an arrest warrant Feb. 3 to the child’s mother, Jessica Jones, 21, of Conway.

Jones was charged with three counts of misdemeanor child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. She was released after posting a $1,600 secured bond. She is due in court Feb. 14.
