Dad arraigned for murder in death of 3-month-old son; dad claims he "only" threw him once (Columbus

Sounds like dad QUINDELL SHERMAN is quite a piece of work. In defending his own actions, he claims he "only" threw the baby once? And that was into the street? Unfreaking believable.

Once again we see how these dudes think. Taking the baby is a way to punish the mother. That's the only motive.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A Columbus man, who is accused in his infant son’s death, is arraigned on murder charges Thursday.

Quindell Sherman, 20, was arrested Tuesday night after Columbus homicide detectives said he threw his 3-month-old son to the ground several times and then threw the infant in a trash bin. The infant later died at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Sherman’s bond was set at $2.5 million during the Thursday morning arraignment hearing.

The following information (in italic) was in the arraignment fact sheet:

Quindell Sherman (the defendant) was fighting with mother of his child, Sonja Mitchell, before he said he was going to leave the residence with his son.

Mitchell and her grandmother attempted to stop the defendant.

The defendant "slammed the infant into the concrete landing of the staircase," on the home’s front porch.

The defendant punched Mitchell in the face several times and then attacked the grandmother.

The defendant picked the infant up from the landing and threw the infant into the air.

The infant landed in the middle of 16th Avenue, 25 feet from where the defendant was standing.

The defendant grabbed the infant’s arm and dragged him down the street, like a ragdoll.

The defendant next ran to an alley north of 16th Avenue.

Mitchell said the defendant held the infant high in the air and then slammed him into the ground.

The defendant ran from the area.

He was found hiding in a trash can, standing on the infant.

Officers apprehended the defendant and attempted CPR on the infant.

The infant was transported to Children’s Hospital where he later was pronounced dead.

Doctors said the infant died as a direct result of injuries suffered by the defendant throwing the child to the ground several times.

The defendant agreed to make a statement to police; he said he only threw his infant son into the air one time and child landed in the middle of 16th Avenue.

The defendant admitted to attacking Mitchell and her grandmother.

NBC 4 spoke to Mitchell’s family after the arraignment.

"Everyone is dealing with it the best way they can. With God and prayers we will make it through it," the infant’s uncle said.

BACK STORY

Quindell Sherman, 20, was fighting with the 3-month-old’s mother, Sonja Mitchell, before he took the infant outside, threw him to the ground several times and then ran off with the infant, according to a police report.

Columbus police officers were called to the 1100 block of East 16th Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers found the infant, severely injured, in a trash bin.

The infant was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in trauma arrest.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital less than an hour later.

Sherman was arrested and charged with murder Tuesday night.

"From what I understood, they said the baby was, I mean the guy, was in the dumpster with the baby, and he was on top of the baby," witness Wayne Green told NBC 4.

Green said the man was hiding from officers.

A Columbus police report did confirm the argument between Sherman and Mitchell was a domestic dispute, but it initially remained unclear whether Sherman is the infant’s father.

The infant's family later confirmed Sherman as the father.

Additional information was not available immediately.
