Babysitting dad accused of critically injuring 2-month-old son (Olympia, Washington)

Once again, we have a babysitting daddy--in this case SHANE OLSEN--who was "watching the baby" while Mom went to work. I presume this means Daddy was unemployed or underemployed. Result: Daddy "allegedly" assaulted the baby, causing severe head injuries and injuries to the rib cage. Seems this was not the first time Daddy "allegedly" abused the baby either, given the evidence of previous injuries. It is possible the 2-month-old infant will not survive. When are we going to stop assuming that virile and aggressive young men make good infant caretakers?

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A 2-month-old baby boy is in critical condition at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and his father is now in the Thurston County Jail accused of assaulting the baby.

Police say the 18-year-old father, Shane Olsen, was watching the baby when the child’s mother went to work. The man’s story has changed several times, police say, but investigators are accusing him of harming the boy causing severe head injuries and injuries to the rib cage.

Detectives tell KIRO 7 doctor’s also discovered evidence of suspected previous abuse involving the baby’s leg.

Olsen has been booked into jail on first-degree assault of a child but he could face more severe charges if the child does not survive.
