DENVER - Police say they shot a man with a Taser on Wednesday night after he held his wife and son hostage at knifepoint.
 
Denver Police were called to the 900 block of Bryant Street around 7 p.m.

A neighbor called police after hearing screaming coming from inside the home.

Officers made contact with the man, who made threats against police and his family.

"He threatened to kill them and threatened to kill the officers. He was acting very irrational," Cmdr. Patrick Phelan with the Denver Police Department's Special Operations Division said.

Officers attempted to negotiate with the man for 10 minutes to get him to surrender but he refused.

Police negotiators later spoke to the mother, who began pleading for help.

"At point she said, 'He's choking my son, he's choking my son.' At that point, to save the hostages we did a crisis entry, forced our way into the room and rescued the hostages, the wife and son, and apprehended the suspect," Phelan said.

When officers entered the home they heard a child's voice coming from the back bedroom and then heard a woman say, "He has a knife."

Officers then went into the bedroom and shot the man with the Taser before taking him into custody.
One officer suffered minor injuries during the entry.

The woman, child and the suspect were taken to the hospital to get checked out.

The suspect's name was not released.

"Very dangerous operation for the officers involved. Unbelievable situation. Officers did a tremendous job, just a tremendous job. Saved the wife and child," Phelan said.

Police: Man accused of child endangerment after throwing baby

A man was charged with child endangerment after throwing his 13-month-old boy during an argument with officers in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side, police said.

Ahmad Boyd, 22, of the 7200 block of South Albany Avenue, was charged with endangering the life and health of a child, obstruction of traffic and resisting a peace officer, all misdemeanors, police said

Boyd was with a large group standing in the street and sitting on cars outside near the intersection of Laverne Avenue and Quincy Street Saturday about 6:45 p.m. Sunday. As police approached, they saw Boyd holding a 13-month-old boy while sitting on a trunk of a car parked on the street, police said.

When officers asked if he would move to the sidewalk for the child’s safety, he said: “This is my car, I’m in front of my house, this is my baby, and I can do whatever the hell I want with him,’’ according to a police report.

As police got out of their car, Boyd refused to move to the sidewalk and told the officer “f--- you, b----" before throwing the child into “mid air” to another person he did not know, placing the child’s life in danger, the report said.

Boyd then ran way but police chased after him. He was apprehended after running through traffic and was subdued with a Taser, police said. Boyd was taken to Loretto Hospital and released.

Seems dad DARREN JONES was enraged because the neighbor had offered refuge to his daughter's mother, who it appears he had assaulted prior to her escape from the home. But Dad wasn't charged with assault because he denied doing so (huh?). Then Daddy goes ballistic at the neighbor's door--all while he's holding his 2-year-old daughter--and all he gets charged with is "threatening behavior." Even though the police had to threaten him with a taser to get him to "calm down." For this, he gets to attend a "domestic violence programme." Which will do diddly squat. AN "EXTREMELY angry" man who was holding his two-year-old daughter as he kicked and punched a door has been ordered to attend a domestic violence programme.

Darren Jones, 23, of the Whitehall Estate, St Kew Highway, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour and appeared before Bodmin magistrates on January 27.

He had denied a charge of assaulting his partner Abigail Fleming by beating, and this was withdrawn by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Jill Wilson, for the prosecution, said that on November 1 there had been difficulties between Jones and Ms Fleming and she had gone to a neighbour's house.

Jones, who was extremely angry, followed her and "to everyone's shock" kicked and punched the neighbour's door while he was carrying the child under his arm.

When the neighbour's father Clive Allen tried to calm things down, Jones was aggressive towards him.

Jones then returned to his own flat and could be seen pacing around with his shirt off. He then went back and banged on the door again.

Police officers had to threaten him with a Taser before he would calm down.

He later told police that Ms Fleming had asked him to take the child round to her at the neighbour's but would then not answer the door.

Chris Andrews, for the defence, said Jones accepted he had lost his temper.

Probation officer Hannah Thomas, recommending that Jones should join the integrated domestic abuse programme, said that the offence had been part of a domestic incident and it was very important that he should accept the impact this would have had on his daughter.

The magistrates sentenced him to a two-year community order with probation supervision and participation in the programme, as well as ordering him to pay £85 in costs.

Frankly, UNNAMED DAD is a useless piece of sh**. This is the SECOND partner with whom he has violated a domestic violence order, and this is the SECOND time he has been tasered by the police.

He has a history of violence with his current partner, who got an order of protection after he assaulted her when she was six months pregnant.

And now this sh** is pulling all the stops on the Daddy Drama crap--and then some. He apparently got drunk and assaulted Mom (since she has a visible bruise on her temple). He then took the baby and used him as a human shield in a standoff with local police. He ASSAULTED A POLICE OFFICER and charged four others.

And yet the magistrate granted this sh** bail--"so he can return home for Christmas." And he gets supervised visitation with the child he used as a shield with police! Great! Let's force more trauma on this little boy! Let's make his safety contingent on whether some nitwit social worker feels like doing his or her job.

Meanwhile, Mom, who is rightfully terrified of retribution, does not have custody of her son. Even though she was the one who had a protection order violated, and there are NO ACCUSATIONS of wrong doing on her part. So why does she have supervised visitation as well?

This shows the real double standard when it comes to men and women, and how male criminals are often treated BETTER than the female victims. Sickening.

A FATHER tasered while clutching his baby son to his chest, allegedly as a shield, was granted bail yesterday so he can return home for Christmas.

But it won't be a festive family reunion for the 36-year-old well-known Ingham business owner - after his 15-week old baby was seized by the Department for Child Safety and his 28-year-old defacto partner left him.

Child Safety took the baby just hours after being advised of the weekend's "alleged alcohol-fuelled domestic violence" incident in which the father is accused of picking up the child so "police would not shoot him" - then punching a policeman several times to the head and repeatedly charging at four officers.

At 3am on Saturday, December 17, police tasered the man while he was holding the child, who was not injured. The mother packed her bags and left the shared home immediately afterwards and she is now residing in Townsville awaiting the return of her baby, with whom she can have only supervised contact.

The woman, who has a visible bruise to her temple and is "in fear of retribution", plans to move down south with her family, as it wasn't the first time her partner has allegedly been violent towards her and the child.

He is also accused of breaching a domestic violence order, put in place on June 3 this year in Ingham Magistrates Court, for assaulting her when she was six months' pregnant while they walked home from a local restaurant.

Magistrate Peter Smid recognised the defendant from a different domestic violence order breach against another woman. He was tasered after a 2010 incident incident involving his former partner and their two young children.

"I have a sense of deja vu about you - because back then you also had a similar practice of hanging your head in shame and that's how I recognise you," Mr Smid said.

"You don't fool me because I know what sort of person you are - you are a violent person at times."

The magistrate granted the man bail for the sake of his business, with defence lawyer Tara Payne submitting it would suffer considerably over the busy festive period.

The man has been bailed until January 23, 2012, on five charges including endangering a child by exposure, breaching a domestic violence order, assault or obstruct police, serious assault and wilful damage.

Mr Smid did not impose an alcohol ban, despite police prosecutor Colleen Wainwright submitting "he is a nice man until he drinks", but ordered he have no contact with the mother. he is allowed supervised contact with his son.

Father Pleads Guilty to Threatening to Kill 7-Year-Old

A St. Paul father has pleaded guilty to threatening to kill his 7-year-old son.

Fifty-two-year-old John Akwuba will be sentenced later this year on one count of felony terroristic threats.

According to a criminal complaint, police were called to a home in the 1900 block of Foxridge Road June 18 on a report a child was being beaten. When officers arrived, they found Akwuba punching a 7-year-old boy in the back of a car while yelling "I'm going to kill you."

Akwuba continued to punch the boy as officers attempted to pull him away, and authorities needed to use "an electronic control device" to get Akwuba away from the child, according to the complaint. The boy later told police his father had choked him and he was frightened because he couldn't breathe.

In an interview with authorities, Akwuba said he was disciplining the boy, but denied hitting or choking him.

A second charge of domestic assault by strangulation, which carries a lesser maximum penalty, was dropped as part of a plea agreement.

Indianapolis— A man was arrested Monday after police said he left his three-year-old son locked inside of a car while at a strip club.

It happened around 1 a.m. Monday at the Indy Dancers Gentleman's Show Club on West Washington Street. Police received an anonymous call that a toddler was locked inside of a green Jeep Cherokee sleeping soundly in the back seat.

"The doors were locked and they were unable to get the child to wake up so they called for the fire department. They got there really quick, disengaged the locks," said IMPD Spokesperson Linda Jackson.

"Just so you have an understanding of how long we were actually out there, they got underneath the hood and disabled the car alarm. We were probably in the parking lot a good 10 minutes at that point in time before the man who was later identified as the child's father came out to speak to police."

The father, 33-year-old Thomas Yates of Greenwood, told police he came to the club simply to give his friend a ride home. Surveillance video showed a much different story, though.

"From that they were able to see that he'd been in there for about 30 minutes," Jackson said.

When officers began to arrest Yates, they said he put up a violent fight, striking and clawing at the officers who were forced to deploy their taser.

"In an effort to subdue him the taser was deployed; however, he jerked away from the taser and one of the officers was tased by his own weapon," Jackson said.

Yates was arrested and his child turned over to protective services. A sad situation, police said that could have been much worse if it wasn't for a concerned individual who happened to be in the right place at the right time.

"We definitely appreciate an anonymous caller or not the information was good the officers were able to get there very quickly and taken out of the car very quickly."

Yates is charged with neglect of a dependent, resisting law enforcement and battery with injury on an officer.

A SWAT action that forced the evacuation of at least a half-dozen homes ended shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday in northwest La Mesa when a man was Tasered on his porch, police said.

A parolee accused of making threats against his son was arrested following the nearly eight-hour standoff with officers, police said. KGTV Channel 10 News identified the father as William Warnock.

The station quoted La Mesa police Lt. David Bond as saying Warnock is a parolee because of a felony charge of evading police and said Warnock would be booked on charges of making a criminal threat and assault with a deadly weapon.

Police were called to a home in the 6100 block of Blain Place near Dallas Street about 10 p.m. Tuesday after the man, who is in his 50s, made the threats, said La Mesa police Sgt. Ted Fenn.

He refused to come out and speak with officers, prompting the standoff, which involved La Mesa police and an El Cajon SWAT team, Fenn said.

Officers set off flash-bang grenades to coax the man out, but the standoff persisted until shortly after 6 a.m., when the man came out onto a porch and was Tasered by an officer, police said.

He was then arrested without further incident. The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Warnock’s wife—who had left the house—told officers that her husband was a Vietnam veteran who had access to a rifle, shotgun and a pistol.

Police took their time with the standoff because they thought the man had access to several weapons, including a pistol, shotgun and rifle, 10 News reported from the scene.

The station reported that the man was a 59-year-old Vietnam veteran with a conviction for evading police. He allegedly threatened his son with a screwdriver.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A St. Paul attorney is accused of choking and punching his 7-year-old son at least 30 times.

John Akwuba is charged with domestic assault by strangulation and making terrorist threats. Police were called to the Battle Creek neighborhood Saturday after receiving a report of someone beating a child in the back seat of a car. A criminal complaint says officers tried pulling Akwuba away from the child, but had to use a stun gun to subdue the 246-pound suspect.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports (http://bit.ly/kaCDzm) a neighbor told police she saw Akwuba repeatedly punch the boy while yelling at him as the child was screaming and crying.

Akwuba later told police he was disciplining his son for hitting a girl.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Spokane County sheriff's deputies kicked down the door to a burning home at Chattaroy and rescued a suicidal man who tried to fight them off with a knife and homemade flamethrower.

KHQ reports the man was subdued with a Taser early Wednesday, treated at hospital and jailed for investigation of arson and child molestation.

Deputies were called to the home by a teenage son who reported his father was suicidal after raping a younger sister. When deputies arrived the man sent his three children outside and set fire to an aerosol spray and started burning curtains and cabinets.

After subduing the man, deputies knocked down the flames with pans of water. They found two dogs cowering under a bed in a back room. The children were released to a grandparent.

OLATHE, Kan. — A three-year-old child was hit by a Taser after his father used him as a shield during his arrest, officials said on Tuesday. The Johnson County Sheriff's Department was serving a protection order for the child in the 800 block of Lindenwood in Olathe.

The child's father, Jason P. Troxel, grabbed the child and ran from the home. When deputies chased Troxel, he fell to the ground and a deputy used their Taser. The Taser hit the child in the legs. Deputies were able to take the child from Troxel and tackled him, using the Taser again.

The child was taken to the hospital and was treated for minor injuries and released to his mother's custody.

Troxel was arrested and booked into jail on a civil contempt warrant and additional charges of endangering a child, obstruction of justice and fleeing and eluding.

Dad JULIO VALENCIA is accused of getting drunk, getting "violent" with the mother of his children (of course, his "alleged" actions remain unspecified and basically glossed over), and locking his two kids outside in 9 degree weather when they tried to escape him.

The police even had to taser this dude--that's how "combative" he was even with THEM.

But just watch. I have little doubt that the judges will turn him loose in no time, so he can terrorize his "womenfolk" all over again. And if Mom tried to leave this guy, it would be even worse for all of them. Unattainable/unenforceable protection orders along with joint custody has made self-protection impossible these days.

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque father is in jail, accused of locking his two children out of their home when it was only 9 degrees outside.

According to the two daughters -- ages 17 and 12 -- their father, Julio Valencia, came home drunk Saturday, got violent with their mother and then locked them out when they ran outside to get away from him. The girls were both barefoot and had no jackets on.

Police said when they arrived, Valencia was so combative, they had to shoot him with a Taser to subdue him.

Valencia, 56, is charged with two counts of child abuse.

A local father admits to being drunk when he tossed his two year old son into the air, letting the boy fall flat on his back on the floor.

Ronald Deese was sentenced to 15 months in jail after pleading guilty to child endangerment.

Prosecutors say when a deputy showed up at Deese's Bedford County home in June, Deese told the deputy to use a TASER on him while he was holding his son.

All this happened after they say Deese told the mother of his children he would cut her throat.

The father who used his 2-year-old as a human shield from a police Taser in Warren was sentenced to one year in jail and ordered to take parenting classes today.

At his sentencing in Macomb County Circuit Court, Joseph R. Cox, 27, of Belleville was also ordered to perform 100 hours of community service, take anger management classes, undergo a psychiatric evaluation and submit to random alcohol and drug testing.

Judge David Viviano gave credit for time served to Cox, who has been jailed since the incident at his ex-wife’s home in Warren in April.

Investigators said he broke in to her house, the refused an order to come out. Instead, a Warren Police officer testified, Cox stood in his ex-wife’s living room and pivoted while holding his daughter in front of him, the red light of the Taser’s target glowing on her chest.

He also pleaded guilty to third-degree home invasion and obstructing a police officer, in addition to pleading no contest to second-degree misdemeanor charge of child abuse. Cox could have faced up to four years in jail if convicted of a felony child abuse charge.

GOLDEN GATE, Fla. - Hog tied and threatened with a taser! That's what the Collier County Sheriff's Office says a Golden Gate man did to a child.

Neighbors of Jon Parrish say his 15-year-old daughter was always running away, and he had a difficult time controlling her.

The teen was picked up by the Lee County Sheriff's Office in May. She told deputies that just days earlier her father had zip-tied her to the bed and tased her for running away. The teen says he even threatened to use a dog collar to chain her up.

Neighbors to the family think the girl may have embellished some of the story, and Parrish only did what was necessary as a parent.

Parrish, who is a Naples lawyer, is being charged with two felony charges of child abuse and false imprisonment.

A Frederick man who was charged in the attempted strangling of his 19-month-old son last week could be heard chanting for prayers as police burst in on him to get him to loosen his grip on the child, authorities said.

When Officer First Class Andrew Alcorn arrived about 5:25 p.m. Friday at a house in the 100 block of Fairfield Drive, he found Alton H. Ambush trying to barricade the door with his body and could hear the man repeating the phrase, "Pray, we just need to pray," his voice getting louder over the cries of the child who was being attacked, the Frederick Police Department reported.

Outside, the boy's mother and paternal grandmother had been screaming and crying, worried the baby's father would kill the child, according to court documents. Through the door, the officer could see Ambush's knuckles turning white as he squeezed the child with increasing force.

Ambush, 33, was charged on Friday with first-degree assault, second-degree child abuse, assault and child abuse, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest. He is being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center in lieu of $500,000 bail.

According to court documents, Alcorn forced his way into the house and saw Ambush with his left arm locked around the child and his right arm around the child's legs, holding onto his diaper. The officer tried to calm Ambush and have him hand over the child, but he refused and tightened his grip.

Alcorn tried to pry open Ambush's fingers, but his grip continued to tighten and Ambush began to rock back and forth, yelling at the police to get off him and repeating that, "We need to pray," police said.

The boy turned bright red and his cries intensified when other officers arrived, and they struggled with Ambush for about three to five minutes to get him to release the child, police said. One officer thought Ambush's grip would "snap (the child's) neck," according to court documents.
Officers struck Ambush and used a Taser on him, and Alcorn eventually pulled the boy away from him. At that point, the child was limp and pale and his lips were turning blue or purple, police said.

The boy's mother told officers Ambush had come to the house to play video games with a friend. About 10 minutes after he arrived, he went upstairs and into the bedroom, grabbed her and the child and pulled them close.

The woman told police Ambush asked if they loved him and said they all needed to pray about it.

Ambush was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for injuries suffered in the struggle and also received a psychological evaluation, said Sgt. Joseph Hayer.

The child was treated at the scene by emergency personnel. His mother declined to take him to the hospital.

A drug test of Ambush was negative except for marijuana, though he did not appear intoxicated, police said.

We've reported on this case before. JOSEPH R. COX is another one of those daddies who was awarded joint custody despite being a "habitual offender." All joint custody seemed to do in this case was create a lot of unneeded aggravation for the mother and put the baby at unnecessary risk. Can't we just take guys like Cox and cut them loose? Why were Daddy's rights considered more important than anyone else's right to safety, security, and happiness?

WARREN: Dad to be sentenced in Taser case

The man who held his 2-year-old in front of him to avoid being shocked by a police Taser in Warren is to be sentenced to up to a year in jail next month.

Joseph R. Cox, 27, of Belleville pleaded guilty Tuesday in Macomb County Circuit Court to third-degree home invasion and resisting and obstructing a police officer. He also pleaded no contest to second-degree child abuse, according to court records. As part of the plea, a habitual offender charge is to be dismissed at sentencing, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 30.

A Warren police officer testified in April that he was just a few feet from Cox when the father held his 2-year-old in front of him, the red light of a Taser's laser target glowing on her chest. The officer said Cox used the girl as a human shield, pivoting with her as the officer tried to reposition himself. Cox's ex-wife said she called police after he had broken into her home during a disagreement.

Dad with joint custody uses 2-year-old child as shield against police taser (Warren, Michigan)

Why the hell would anybody give dad JOSEPH RAYMOND COX joint custody of a 2-year-old child? It's quite clear that Daddy's violent, abusive, and volatile, and shouldn't be anywhere near any child. But such are the courts these days--any crazy sperm donor gets joint custody on demand.

So this is what went down. Daddy tries to force his way into his ex-wife's home. She calls the police. They say to call back "if he returned." Which is ridiculous, and just heightened the risk to everyone involved. Well, of course Daddy DID come back, and the police find him in a "fighting stance." The officers pull out their Tasers (stun guns) and Daddy grabs their 2-year-old, using him (or her--not clear which) as a shield. So Daddy put this toddler in potential danger so Daddy wouldn't get attacked. That's showing the love, man.

Fortunately, the officers were able to grab the dad and handcuff him, and an unidentified "witness" was able to retrieve the child. With no Tasers fired.

Daddy's been charged with 2nd degree child abuse, 3rd-degree home invasion, and resisting and obstructing police. But do you think Mom will get sole custody now, and get visitation eliminated for Daddy Dearest? Don't bet your rent money on it.

Warren police say 27-year-old Joseph Raymond Cox used his two-year-old child as a Taser shield following a domestic disturbance incident at his ex-wife's home.

And no, this is not an April Fools' joke.

The Macomb Daily reports Cox's ex-wife called police Saturday to report he had forced entry to her home in an apparent attempt to deliver diapers to the child they share joint custody of.

Police told her to call back if he returned, which he did, and officers arrived to find him in a "fighting stance," police Capt. Dennis DeVooght told the newspaper.

April 1, Macomb Daily: Officers pulled out their Tasers — a stun gun device — and pointed them at the accused father. Cox grabbed the child — the captain said police reports did not indicate the 2-year-old's gender — and positioned the child between him and the officers.

"He put the kid in harm's way because he didn't want to get Tasered," DeVooght said.

One officer grabbed the suspect's arm and a witness grabbed the child out of the way. Police then struggled to handcuff Cox.

Officers did not fire their Tasers, police said.

Thankfully, Warren police did not mistake the child for a stuffed animal.

Cox was arraigned Monday on charges of second-degree child abuse, third-degree home invasion and resisting and obstructing police. As of Wednesday, he remained in Macomb County Jail on a $15,000 cash or surety bond, with a preliminary hearing scheduled April 8.
