A father who subjected his daughter to years of abuse had previously sexually assaulted children from a former marriage, a court heard.

The 66-year-old was jailed for a minimum of six years – and will not be released from prison until it has been decided he is no further risk to the public.

Judge Simon Hammond said: "It's likely he won't ever be released. This is the third time he's committed sex offences and the second time where he's sexually abused his family, this being his second family. He's a wicked predatory sex offender.

"It was a gross breach of his daughter's trust and love. She'll never forget what he did.

"The same thing happened with his other family when he sexually abused three children – his own blood.

"He remains a high risk of sexual harm to children, both male and female."

The man, who cannot be named to protect his daughter's identity, abused her when she was aged between 11 and 16.

He admitted two specimen counts of rape – by forcing her to perform a sex act – sexually assaulting her, inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity and two counts of sexual activity with a child.

The defendant, from the Syston area, was arrested last summer after his victim learned of his previous incestuous behaviour, by contacting a daughter from his first marriage (her half sister).

Leicester Crown Court was told the offences went back more than 45 years.

In 1965, the defendant was fined for two offences of indecent assault.

In 1976, he was convicted of three counts of sexual assault, involving two daughters, aged between six and 10, and one of indecently assaulting his seven-year-old son. He was given an 18-month suspended jail sentence, with supervision.

James House, prosecuting, said that the man married his second wife in the early 1990s and had more children.

One of those was the daughter he abused from the age of 11.

He would sexually assault her while her mother was out and sometimes indecently abused her in the marital bed, when her mother was downstairs.

Mr House said: "She felt absolutely violated and disgusted.

"He said not to tell her mother because it was break her heart and she'd leave them both. He told her she was sexy and that she'd 'made' him do it.

"The pre-sentence report states he's a high risk of re-offending and blames the complainant."

Judge Hammond said: "How outrageous a father should blame his daughter for his sexual abuse of her."

Andrew Easteal, in mitigation, said the defendant was now suffering from deteriorating ill health.

He said: "There's no prospect of him being able to resume any paternal role in future.

"He knows he must serve a significant and substantial custodial term."
