MAYWOOD — Police arrested a father after investigators found marijuana and a digital scale hidden in a car seat being used to restrain one of his four children in the vehicle, authorities said.
The arrest happened during a motor vehicle stop on West Passaic Street about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday. Damenn C. Nelson, 38, of Passaic, was arrested on a child support warrant, and police searched the vehicle after smelling marijuana inside, authorities said.
Investigators found the scale and several bags of marijuana inside the car seat in the vehicle, which Nelson’s children and their mother were also riding in, police said in a statement. Nelson was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute in a school zone, endangering the welfare of a child and motor vehicle summonses, police said.
Nelson told police he did not know why he had a child support warrant.
He was taken to Bergen County Jail on a $25,000 bail.
