HAVERHILL — A three-month old baby is in a Boston hospital this morning after suffering severe injuries at the hands of her father, according to police and the District Attorney's office.
At around 4:30 yesterday afternoon, police received a call from 452 Lake St., Haverhill, of a baby not breathing, said Steve O'Connell, spoksman for District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett.
When officers arrived, they found a baby girl with shallow breathing. She was taken to Lawrence General Hospital and then transported to Boston Medical Center, where her prognosis is "unclear at this point," O'Connell said.
Investigators from Haverhill and State Police met with medical staff in Boston, then interviewed the girl's father, Timothy Blazonis, 21, of 452 Lake St.
Blazonis was arrested after he turned himself in at the Haverhill police station at 3:33 this morning. He is being charged with assault and battery on a child causing substantial bodily injury and will be arraigned today in Haverhill District Court.
