Anonymous phone call stops dad from murdering mom, two kids (Menasha, Wisconsin)
First question: Why was the mom, who was separated from the dad, having to go to his address to see the children? Why was a guy who then battered and strangled the mom given access to the children at all? Why was a dad who attempted to murder the his wife and children through carbon monoxide poisoning (car exhaust) allowed anywhere near the them? The father is an UNNAMED DAD. It's amazing that this family survived--all because an alert, anonymous caller contacted the police because of concern for the woman's welfare. A salute to the caller, whoever you are....

Updated: Dec 04, 2009 12:23 AM CST
Town of Menasha police say a man tried to kill his family in a murder-suicide attempt -- and an anonymous call may have saved their lives.
Police were asked to check on the woman's welfare shortly after 10 o'clock Wednesday night. Officers were told the woman had separated from her husband and she went to the address to see her children.
The woman says her 33-year-old estranged husband battered and strangled her until she was unconscious, and when she came to, she found herself, her four- and six-year-old children, and her estranged husband in a car with the engine running in a closed garage with the car windows rolled down.
The woman says she regained consciousness shortly before officers arrived.
"We're very fortunate that whoever called had called, and that they called when they did call," Officer Jason Weber said. "On top of that, the police officers who responded were very persistent and adamant about that female."
The 30-year-old woman was taken to a hospital for her injuries.
More details will be made public once the man is charged.
