Dad to stand trial over morphine overdose of 10-month-old daughter (Rhinelander, Wisconsin)

Father MATTHEW LONKOSKI is accused of first-degree reckless homicide for leaving a morphine tablet within reach of his 10-month-old daughter. The baby somehow ingested the pill and died of a morphine overdose when she wasn't taken to the hospital in a timely manner.

A Rhinelander father whose baby died of a morphine overdose has been ordered to stand trial.
Matthew Lonkoski is charged with first-degree reckless homicide. Judge Patrick O'Melia ruled Thursday that prosecutors presented enough evidence during a preliminary hearing to justify the charge.

Court officials say attorneys for the 22-year-old Lonkoski requested a new judge and no date was set to enter a plea.

Lonkoski's 10-month-old daughter Peyton Lonkoski died after being found unresponsive at her family's apartment May 4.

Prosecutors say the father left a morphine tablet within the child's reach and didn't take her to a hospital after he realized she must have consumed the drug.

The child's mother, 21-year-old Amanda Bodoh of Rhinelander, has pleaded not guilty to felony child neglect in the death.
