Dad holds knife to mom's throat; son shoots dad, killing him (Spartanburg, South Carolina)

Dad KENNETH EVANS was holding a knife to his wife's throat. His son, in an attempt to protect his mom, shot his dad. The dad has now died in the hospital. No charges are anticipated.

SC father shot by son last week dies in hospital

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - A 45-year-old South Carolina man has died after he was shot last week by his son who was protecting his mother.

Spartanburg County Coroner's investigator Randy Bogan says Kenneth Evans of Lyman died early Saturday at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Multiple media outlets reported that Evans had been shot in the stomach about 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

Twenty-year-old Justin James Evans told deputies his father was holding a knife at his mother's neck, so he shot him. Forty-3-year-old Lesia Evans says her son was protecting her.

Sheriff's spokesman Tony Ivey says charges against Justin Evans are unlikely.
