A Raleigh County man is charged with abusing his 3-month-old daughter after sheriff’s detectives say the child was brought to a hospital with “numerous” broken bones.
Daniel Wayne McKinney, 26, of Crab Orchard, is charged with child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, Sgt. Larry Lilly said. McKinney was taken into custody Tuesday and was being held at Southern Regional Jail on $100,000 bond.
Last Friday, McKinney’s 3-month-old daughter was taken to Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, Detective Sgt. Jim Bare said. The child had “numerous” broken bones, and older injuries were also found. Hospital personnel called Child Protective Services, and CPS workers called the sheriff’s department.
The alleged abuse is believed to have taken place at McKinney’s Crab Orchard home, Bare said. The child’s mother also lived there, and the amount of knowledge she did or did not have remains under investigation.
The child has been released from the hospital and is now in CPS custody, Bare said. No other children lived in McKinney’s home.
