Boynton Beach man faces charges of child neglect, brandishing weapon at kids

A Boynton Beach father remained in jail Tuesday, facing charges of child neglect and aggravated assault with a weapon after allegedly hitting his children’s mother and exposing his children to a handgun, according to police.

Charles Lorenza Lamons III, 27, of Boynton Beach, was arrested Monday by Boynton Beach police.

Police responded to a domestic violence situation around 10 p.m. Sunday at the 100 block of Northeast Third Avenue in Boynton Beach. Police said a woman, who was not identified, said Lamons, the father of her three children, had assaulted her and flashed a firearm at her.

Earlier that day, Lamons had accompanied her and her children to the park. While at the park, the woman asked Lamons to watch the kids while she visited a friend. When she returned an hour and a half later, she said Lamons was upset.

Lamons got in the driver’s seat to take her and the kids home, but just as they were getting close to his house on the 2500 block of Northwest First Street, Lamons told her to get out of the car, according to a police report. She told him that she was not going to get out or walk her three kids home.

Then, Lamons got out of the vehicle and walked toward the passenger side of the car. She said she locked the door, but Lamons got back in and reversed the car into his driveway. Then, he exited the vehicle again and walked around to the passenger side door and said “If you don’t get out, I have something to make you get out.” At that point, the unidentified woman said, Lamons pulled out a grey and black semi-automatic handgun in front of her and her children, who were in the back seat of the car. She said at no time did Lamons point the gun directly at her or the children, but her oldest son, who is 6, witnessed the events and became ill.

She got out of the car and tried to get help from Lamons’ family inside the house, but Lamons kept pushing her away from the house and said at one point grabbed her and slammed her onto the hood of the vehicle, she told police. She tried to get away, but he shoved her to the ground. She managed to escape and headed toward the house, knocking on doors and windows trying to get help. Lamons grabbed her again and threw her to the ground. One time, he tried biting her near her left ear and on her hand.

Eventually people began coming out of the house and Lamons stopped. Police said they saw small scratches on the woman, and said she complained of being in pain and could not use her hand to write her statement to police.

On Monday, police arrested Lamons at his house. Lamons said he did not attack her, but did say he removed the weapon from the car. Lamons has a concealed weapons permit.
