A man who subjected his own son and daughter to 14 years of “vile” sexual abuse has been jailed for six years.

Jailing the 62-year-old, Judge Geoffrey Millar QC told him the “vile” abuse he subjected two of his children to was “entirely for the self-satisfaction and gratification of the defendant and was the most egregious breach of trust that a parent could ever perpetrate on a child”.

Earlier he heard that the Co Tyrone father-of-seven pleaded guilty to 15 charges of indecently assault and two of common assault against his daughter as well as four counts of indecently assaulting his son.

Prosecuting lawyer Michael McAleer told Omagh Crown Court, sitting in Belfast, that in relation to the man's daughter, she was abused on various dates between March 1975 and March 1989 when she was between four and 18 years old. Her younger brother was abused from when he was three until he was eight in the years between March 1982 and March 1987.

Taking each victim in turn, the lawyer said he would regularly force his daughter to touch him inappropriately, perform sex acts and that he would touch her both under and over her clothing.

As well as the jail term, Judge Millar ordered the pervert to sign the sex offenders register for life and barred him from ever working with children.
