A father with an abusive past allegedly hit and kicked his son and forced him to drink an energy drink Thanksgiving afternoon.

Charlie Hupp, 51, was arrested on suspicion of child abuse and booked at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. His bail was set at $100,000, according to an Upland police report.

About 4:35 p.m. Thursday, Upland police were called to a residence near 17th Street and Mountain Avenue after they got an anonymous call about a man who was yelling at his 11-year-old son.

When police officers arrived, they found the boy in the front yard crying.

Police investigated and found out the boy had been hit and kicked and forced to drink a Monster Energy drink when he said he was tired, according to the news release. They also learned abuse like this had happened several times before.

County of San Bernardino Child Protective Services took the 11-year-old boy, a 9-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl out of the residence for safety, according to the news release. A number of guns were also confiscated.
