Still no explanation (surprise!) as to how a father with a history of abuse (animal cruelty) and other criminal behavior managed to get custody of a young child, much less who gave it to him. What happened to this boy's mother? Why has she been erased from the story?
Very typical news story concerning an obviously custodial father (who is not openly identified as such, but clearly is) along with lots of airbrushing and erasure of key points as to how this apparent killer managed to secure access to his victim.

Dad, girlfriend arrested in son's Christmas Eve death

ENGLEWOOD (FOX 13) - A man and his girlfriend are behind bars following the death of a 6-year-old boy this past Christmas Eve.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office says it happened at a home in Englewood, where 31-year-old James Dearman and his girlfriend, 22-year-old Ashley Cole, were playing video games that night.
According deputies, Dearman’s 6-year-old son and his 7-year-old sibling were in the room, and had been told to stand with their faces to the wall. But things turned violent when the youngest turned around to look at the television.
Investigators say Dearman got angry and forced his son to lie on the couch, on his side with the cushions covering his mouth.
"He then pinned his son against that part of the couch using his body weight and pressed against him. The child repeatedly told him he couldn't breathe and eventually became unconscious," said Captain John Walsh of the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies say after his son passed out, Dearman and Cole went to smoke a cigarette in the garage before they called for help.
Dearman reportedly told first responders that his son was unconscious and had stopped breathing. The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital, where they also spotted bruising on his back.
Investigators arrested Dearman the following Monday, December 28, for outstanding animal cruelty and damage to property warrants out of Georgia. He was later charged with aggravated child abuse, which was then upgraded to aggravated manslaughter of a child on New Year’s Eve.
Deputies arrested Dearman’s girlfriend, Cole, on Monday, January 4, after investigators learned she may have helped hold the boy down during the incident. She’s been charged with principal to aggravated manslaughter of a child.

Custodial dad arrested for abusing, starving 11-year-old daughter for two years; what happened to mom? (Korea)
This particular instance of child abuse by a custodial father took place in Korea, but the media obfuscations appear nearly everywhere.
Notice how the mother just suddenly "disappears" eight years ago. What happened to her? Nobody even bothers to ask. Given that Daddy kept this girl a virtual prisoner and beat her badly enough to cause rib fractures, isn't it even remotely possible he dished out similar treatment to Mom? (In reality, it's more than "remotely possible." It's statistically very likely.) So is she dead or "missing" under mysterious circumstances? Did this POS pull legal manoevers to force the mother out? This is in fact a very likely thing for a batterer to do, and they are remarkably successful at it.
Once again, the circumstances that put this child in harm's way--i.e. in the full custody of a violent dad--are erased. No one is held responsible.

Police, supervised by the prosecution, have arrested a man for abusing and starving his 11-year-old daughter for two years.
According to the Incheon Yeonsu Police, Sunday, they arrested the 32-year-old father on charges of child abuse. His live-in girlfriend and another friend were also charged with the same offense and arrested.
They allegedly confined the girl at home and did not provide enough food from 2013.
The unemployed father was a computer game addict and did not let her go to school. She told police that her father played computer games all day long except for when he ate and slept.
The abuse was brought to light after the girl fled home on Dec. 12 by climbing down pipes from her room on the second floor.
She tried to steal bread at a nearby supermarket but the owner caught her. Seeing that she was barefoot and wearing just shorts and a tee-shirt, he called the police.
The police took her to a hospital where she was found to have fractured ribs and bruises on her legs and arms. She said the father hit her with his fists, feet and sometimes steel pipes. She has since been hospitalized for treatment.
The girl said she often had to endure a week without any food but couldn't imagine running away as she feared her father.
When police found the girl, she was 120 centimeters tall but weighed only 16 kilograms, the standard weight for a four-year-old child.
The father was separated from the daughter's biological mother eight years ago, and was living off his girlfriend's paycheck. He admitted that he beat the girl, but claimed it was for discipline.
After treatment, police will send the girl to a counseling center.

"Charleston Killer" raised by violent custodial dad; what happened to this boy's mother? (Charleston, North Carolina)
I am not underplaying other factors that played into this killer's actions, like the ready availability of guns in an extremely racist culture. That said, I get tired of all the fathers day MRA propaganda blaming single mothers for crime and all the other social problems in the world when FBI research clearly shows a very high correlation between violent fathers and murderous offspring.
Notice that it has become so common for abusive and controlling fathers like FRANKLIN ROOF to assume full custody that nobody even asks how he got custody, who gave it to him or what happened to the mother.

The white loner accused of shooting dead nine people at a black church was raised by a violent father who beat up his stepmother and hired a private detective to follow her when they split.
These shocking charges were made in court papers by Paige Mann - the ex-wife of Dylann Roof's father Franklin - that were obtained exclusively by DailyMail.com.
Franklin Bennett Roof, 52, who is known as Benn, bought his son the gun he allegedly used for the massacre.
He is also said to have subjected his wife Paige to a ‘pattern of control and mental manipulation’ that ended with a vicious assault.
Exclusive photographs obtained by DailyMail.com show multiple bruises to her body allegedly caused by him.
She claims he battered her on the back of the head in 2008 and made her ‘world fall apart’.
Franklin is said to have shredded Paige’s self esteem during their ten-year marriage.
He also kept her in a 'virtual prison' by calling her several times a day and demanding to know what she was doing.
The heavily tattooed builder repeatedly told Paige she was lazy and spent too much money.
He allegedly once said: ‘You’re not a very good maid but I’ll keep you around’.
When they split, Franklin is said to have taken his revenge by accusing her of having a lesbian affair and hiring a private detective - who took graphic notes about her spending the night with her boyfriend.
When the divorce was finalized in 2009, Dylann’s last chance of a stable family life disappeared.
His main anchor in life was a father who was away travelling for four days each week with his construction company.
Dylann, who was then 15, began to skip classes, did not finish high school and became unemployed - living ‘on and off’ with his father while he spent his days taking drugs and playing video games.
According to police, his journey into the wilderness ended on Wednesday night when he went on the rampage at a Bible study group at the Emanuel AME church in Charleston, South Carolina.
He is accused of calmly sitting with them for 45 minutes before opening fire and telling the group of black worshippers he was doing it because they had ‘raped our women and are taking over our country’.
He has now been charged with nine counts of murder and has reportedly confessed to the shootings.
The roots of his extreme hatred have yet to be fully explained but documents filed at the Richland Family Court give the clearest indication yet of how he was brought up.
The files show that Paige was the closest thing Dylann ever had to a mother - until Franklin’s alleged abusive behavior removed her from his life.
The former couple married in November 1998 in Florida, when they were living together in Columbia, South Carolina.
Dylann was just four and his half-sister Amber was 11. In 2000 Paige and Franklin had a daughter together, Morgan.
Paige writes that she ‘raised (Franklin’s) kids from a very young age, took them to all of their activities, and Benn’s kids have spent almost every weekend with me. “
After we moved to Florida our marriage really began to deteriorate when Benn became so controlling.”
‘Benn travels a great deal, usually four days a week, so I would always care for and raise his kids’.
Paige tried working at Sears but Franklin said he wanted her to be a stay-at-home mom, so she quit.
Despite her ‘great reluctance, Franklin moved the family to the Florida Keys, away from her family, friends and support network'.
It was a terrible move.
Paige wrote in her affidavit to the court that their ‘fighting and arguing became worse’ and Franklin ‘constantly belittled me about how lazy I was’.
She wrote: ‘After we moved to Florida our marriage really began to deteriorate when Benn became so controlling.
‘He controlled my whereabouts, the checkbook and everything about my life.
‘On September 20, 2008, my whole world fell apart when Benn and I got into an argument.
Benn violently pushed me to the ground and hit me in the back of my head.’
That night Franklin took the credit card from Paige that she had been using to pay the grocery bills.
She said it was her only source of income.
He also said he was ‘cutting off the electricity and taking my car’.
Paige claimed he told her he would ‘relinquish his rights to our daughter if I would waive child support’.
Paige claims in court documents that 'my whole world fell apart when Benn and I got into an argument.

The pictures of her injuries, allegedly from domestic abuse, were included in a court fuke Paige wrote that she was ‘so scared of him that I knew I had to get out of this violent situation’.
She moved back to Columbia with Morgan - leaving Dylann with his father.
The court file contains numerous other documents filed in support of Paige’s claims.
Her mother Patricia Hastings said in a letter to the court that her daughter’s nature was ‘one of caring, cheerfulness and devotion to her family’.
“ Paige was there for Amber and Dylann on the occasions where their own (mother) chose not to be, including church, driving Dyalnn to and from school and extracurricular activities.”
She wrote that her daughter ‘loved Bennett Roof’s other children Amber and Dylann unconditionally as her own’.
And she added: ‘I was afraid that love for these children clouded her judgement in getting involved with Bennett Roof.’
Dylann stayed with Paige and Franklin far more often than with his own mother, who was supposed to have him every other weekend, Patricia noted. ‘Paige was there for Amber and Dylann on the occasions where their own (mother) chose not to be, including church, driving Dylann to and from school and extracurricular activities.’
Her daughter’s marriage had been a ‘source of great concern’ on numerous occasions, she added.
‘Prior to the marriage, a pattern of control and mental manipulation was evident to me and many of (Paige's) friends.
‘Having worked 30 years as a registered nurse and most of those years were in women’s health services, I am well acquainted with the signs of an abusive relationship.
This is even more frightening when you see it unfolding in your own child’s life’.
She described how over the years she saw Franklin ‘isolating (Paige) from her friends and family’.

Hastings said that Franklin was ‘manipulative’ and that once in January 2009 he came round and was ‘pounding on the front door and yelling in the extreme’.
Paige’s friends wrote in court documents that they saw similar incidents.
The most blunt was Sally Moore, a special education teacher, who had known Paige for 20 years.
She wrote in a letter: ‘Benn was tough on Paige. He called her several times a day to check up on her and find to what she was doing, and what was for dinner.
‘If he should make it home, I heard him making comments about her cleaning: "How long is that laundry going to stay in that f***ing chair?
'"What in the hell have you been doing all day?" and "You’re not a very good maid but I’ll keep you around".
‘Benn began to work out of town more and more, staying out of town for a week or more at a time.
‘Paige had the responsibility of their child Morgan and her two stepchildren.
‘The toughest time for Paige was 2004-7.
‘Paige and Benn built a house and their living expenses became more exuberant. Benn questioned every penny Paige spent, even at the grocery store. I heard him question: "What did you buy for $200 at Food Lion?" and "Morgan’s shoes cost how much?"

‘Benn did not even trust our relationship. He at one time accused us of being lesbians... it seemed odd to me since I know how truly selfless Paige is and what a kind heart she has.’
Another letter was written by Paige’s friend Leslie McArver who had known her for four years.
She wrote: ‘(Paige) always made sure Dylann was able to visit his father, even taking him to and from his house every weekend. She has been very active in all of the children’s lives for the past 10 years and caring for them as her own.'
Yet another of Paige’s friends, Whitney Malson, whose daughter went to the same school as Morgan, wrote that she was ‘afraid’ of Franklin.
She wrote: ‘My husband witnessed him banging on Paige’s door at night and yelling at her. He kept banging on the door, yelling out her name, and I called out to him and said she was not at home.
‘Last week he showed up at school and was borderline physical with Paige. He was trying to pull Morgan’s backpack off Paige’s shoulders and was violent about it. He was harassing her all the way to the car in his own daughter’s school zone,’ she claimed.
Paige and Franklin split in December 2008 and the divorce was finalized in February 2009.
But in January of that year Franklin hired a private investigator to investigate Paige.
In his affidavit Franklin wrote: ‘I now know she has a boyfriend. I hired a detective and found out my suspicions were confirmed. She has omitted this affair to me’.
The word ‘omitted’ appears to be a typo and he seems to have meant ‘admitted’.
According to the surveillance report by McKay Investigations, a Columbia-based detective agency, agents tailed Paige over two weekends and observed her being affectionate with her new boyfriend, Scott McWhite.
Franklin entered it into the divorce files to demonstrate what he saw was a wrong against him.
The report reads: ‘As Scott leaned against the Cherokee, Paige put her chest to his and leaned on him. ‘They kissed. Paige rubbed Scott’s chest and wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him. He in return wrapped his arms around her waist.
‘Paige became extremely loving. It was as if she simply could not keep her hands, lips and body off of Scott.'
The agents write that the pair were ‘very free with their actions and in no way tried to be discreet’.
Over one weekend the agents carried out almost 24-hour surveillance on the couple, watching them in a club until after midnight and then back at McWhite’s apartment where they sat watching them relaxing by candlelight until they closed the curtains.
The agents returned the following morning at 5.24am, checked that Paige’s car was still there and watched as the naked couple put on their clothes and got ready for the day.
The report says: ‘She picked her pants up from the floor and put them on. Paige and Scott stood in front of the bathroom mirror.
‘Paige picked up her bra from the floor and put her arms through the straps. Scott stepped out of the bathroom and fastened her bra.’
In his filings Franklin denied some of the allegations against him.
He said that he did not object to Paige having custody of Morgan but he could not pay much child support as his business had been ‘living off borrowed money for over the last year’.
He claimed it had been ‘difficult to stay afloat’ after the 2008 economic crash, even though tax filings show he earned $48,000 that year.
Paige’s lawyer accused him of lying about his income and said that in his 2008 tax return he claimed to earn $5,100 a month - but it was actually $7,1500.

In her affidavit Paige also alleged that Franklin had done ‘extremely well’ in construction, and in 2008 alone put $168,000 in their bank account.
The final terms of the divorce were that Paige got custody of Morgan and that Franklin would pay $570 per month in child support.
There was no mention of what happened to Dylann.
Franklin did not return calls for comment but neighbours at his house in Columbia said he was an 'easygoing guy' who likes to take holidays in Florida.
Matt Shearer, 27, an English teacher who lives next door, told DailyMail.com that Franklin goes by his middle name Benn and is a 'nice guy'.
He said: 'Benn likes a beer, he likes going to Key West. He's got lots of tattoos, sailor tattoos. I've never had any trouble from them the time I've been here. 'Benn owns the house on his property and rents it to a black guy. Benn has never struck me as racist or a white supremacist.'
Franklin's home is a two-storey property in a working-class area of Columbia.
On the porch at the front is a sign that reads: 'Harley Davidson Parking Only.'
A sign on the front door reads: 'Beware of the Dog'.
A Stars and Stripes flag hangs off a pole from the front of the house.
When DailyMail.com went to the house, Roof's sister Amber shouted: 'We've called the police. You've got to go.'
Three squad cars arrived and Franklin came out the house but refused to comment.
He pointed at the officers and said: 'I'll let them deal with you'.
DailyMail.com also visited the house of Roof's grandparents Joseph, 77, a prominent local lawyer, and Lucy, 76. Joseph answered the door and said: 'I've got three phones ringing and I'm trying to deal with this.'
His wife said: 'No comment, no comment,' and closed the door.
Roof's last known address is a ranch-style home on a main road in Eastover, a 30-minute drive north-east of Columbia, owned by Danny Beard.
A sign outside one of the properties reads: 'Peaceful Acres'. A Stars and Stripes flag hangs over the front porch.
Beard appears to be a patriot as there is a large shed on the grounds with more than a dozen vintage-style plates and signs, including the logo for gun maker Smith and Wesson.
Another reads: 'Don't Tread On Me' whilst others are for Route 66, Indian Motorcycles, Boar's Nest - a barbecue restaurant in Columbia - Winchester Rifles and the Ford Motor Company.
One bears the words 'Land of the Free'. Another has an American Eagle with the message: 'Everyone Remembers. No one forgets. POW MIA.'
A man who spoke from behind the locked front door said: 'This is private property, leave.'
Numerous other relatives of the Roof family told DailyMail.com to 'get off the property' when approached. .

The former couple married in November 1998 in Florida, when they were living together in Columbia, South Carolina.
Dylann was just four and his half-sister Amber was 11. In 2000 Paige and Franklin had a daughter together, Morgan.
Paige writes that she ‘raised (Franklin’s) kids from a very young age, took them to all of their activities, and Benn’s kids have spent almost every weekend with me. “

‘Benn travels a great deal, usually four days a week, so I would always care for and raise his kids’.
Paige tried working at Sears but Franklin said he wanted her to be a stay-at-home mom, so she quit.
Despite her ‘great reluctance, Franklin moved the family to the Florida Keys, away from her family, friends and support network'.
It was a terrible move.
Paige wrote in her affidavit to the court that their ‘fighting and arguing became worse’ and Franklin ‘constantly belittled me about how lazy I was’.
She wrote: ‘After we moved to Florida our marriage really began to deteriorate when Benn became so controlling.
‘He controlled my whereabouts, the checkbook and everything about my life.
‘On September 20, 2008, my whole world fell apart when Benn and I got into an argument.
Benn violently pushed me to the ground and hit me in the back of my head.’
That night Franklin took the credit card from Paige that she had been using to pay the grocery bills.
She said it was her only source of income.
He also said he was ‘cutting off the electricity and taking my car’.
Paige claimed he told her he would ‘relinquish his rights to our daughter if I would waive child support’.

The pictures of her injuries, allegedly from domestic abuse, were included in a court fuke Paige wrote that she was ‘so scared of him that I knew I had to get out of this violent situation’.
She moved back to Columbia with Morgan - leaving Dylann with his father.
The court file contains numerous other documents filed in support of Paige’s claims.
Her mother Patricia Hastings said in a letter to the court that her daughter’s nature was ‘one of caring, cheerfulness and devotion to her family’.
“ Paige was there for Amber and Dylann on the occasions where their own (mother) chose not to be, including church, driving Dyalnn to and from school and extracurricular activities.”
She wrote that her daughter ‘loved Bennett Roof’s other children Amber and Dylann unconditionally as her own’.
And she added: ‘I was afraid that love for these children clouded her judgement in getting involved with Bennett Roof.’
Dylann stayed with Paige and Franklin far more often than with his own mother, who was supposed to have him every other weekend, Patricia noted. ‘Paige was there for Amber and Dylann on the occasions where their own (mother) chose not to be, including church, driving Dylann to and from school and extracurricular activities.’
Her daughter’s marriage had been a ‘source of great concern’ on numerous occasions, she added.
‘Prior to the marriage, a pattern of control and mental manipulation was evident to me and many of (Paige's) friends.
‘Having worked 30 years as a registered nurse and most of those years were in women’s health services, I am well acquainted with the signs of an abusive relationship.
This is even more frightening when you see it unfolding in your own child’s life’.
She described how over the years she saw Franklin ‘isolating (Paige) from her friends and family’.

Hastings said that Franklin was ‘manipulative’ and that once in January 2009 he came round and was ‘pounding on the front door and yelling in the extreme’.
Paige’s friends wrote in court documents that they saw similar incidents.
The most blunt was Sally Moore, a special education teacher, who had known Paige for 20 years.
She wrote in a letter: ‘Benn was tough on Paige. He called her several times a day to check up on her and find to what she was doing, and what was for dinner.
‘If he should make it home, I heard him making comments about her cleaning: "How long is that laundry going to stay in that f***ing chair?
'"What in the hell have you been doing all day?" and "You’re not a very good maid but I’ll keep you around".
‘Benn began to work out of town more and more, staying out of town for a week or more at a time.
‘Paige had the responsibility of their child Morgan and her two stepchildren.
‘The toughest time for Paige was 2004-7.
‘Paige and Benn built a house and their living expenses became more exuberant. Benn questioned every penny Paige spent, even at the grocery store. I heard him question: "What did you buy for $200 at Food Lion?" and "Morgan’s shoes cost how much?"

‘Benn did not even trust our relationship. He at one time accused us of being lesbians... it seemed odd to me since I know how truly selfless Paige is and what a kind heart she has.’
Another letter was written by Paige’s friend Leslie McArver who had known her for four years.
She wrote: ‘(Paige) always made sure Dylann was able to visit his father, even taking him to and from his house every weekend. She has been very active in all of the children’s lives for the past 10 years and caring for them as her own.'
Yet another of Paige’s friends, Whitney Malson, whose daughter went to the same school as Morgan, wrote that she was ‘afraid’ of Franklin.
She wrote: ‘My husband witnessed him banging on Paige’s door at night and yelling at her. He kept banging on the door, yelling out her name, and I called out to him and said she was not at home.
‘Last week he showed up at school and was borderline physical with Paige. He was trying to pull Morgan’s backpack off Paige’s shoulders and was violent about it. He was harassing her all the way to the car in his own daughter’s school zone,’ she claimed.
Paige and Franklin split in December 2008 and the divorce was finalized in February 2009.
But in January of that year Franklin hired a private investigator to investigate Paige.
In his affidavit Franklin wrote: ‘I now know she has a boyfriend. I hired a detective and found out my suspicions were confirmed. She has omitted this affair to me’.
The word ‘omitted’ appears to be a typo and he seems to have meant ‘admitted’.
According to the surveillance report by McKay Investigations, a Columbia-based detective agency, agents tailed Paige over two weekends and observed her being affectionate with her new boyfriend, Scott McWhite.
Franklin entered it into the divorce files to demonstrate what he saw was a wrong against him.
The report reads: ‘As Scott leaned against the Cherokee, Paige put her chest to his and leaned on him. ‘They kissed. Paige rubbed Scott’s chest and wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him. He in return wrapped his arms around her waist.
‘Paige became extremely loving. It was as if she simply could not keep her hands, lips and body off of Scott.'
The agents write that the pair were ‘very free with their actions and in no way tried to be discreet’.
Over one weekend the agents carried out almost 24-hour surveillance on the couple, watching them in a club until after midnight and then back at McWhite’s apartment where they sat watching them relaxing by candlelight until they closed the curtains.
The agents returned the following morning at 5.24am, checked that Paige’s car was still there and watched as the naked couple put on their clothes and got ready for the day.
The report says: ‘She picked her pants up from the floor and put them on. Paige and Scott stood in front of the bathroom mirror.
‘Paige picked up her bra from the floor and put her arms through the straps. Scott stepped out of the bathroom and fastened her bra.’
In his filings Franklin denied some of the allegations against him.
He said that he did not object to Paige having custody of Morgan but he could not pay much child support as his business had been ‘living off borrowed money for over the last year’.
He claimed it had been ‘difficult to stay afloat’ after the 2008 economic crash, even though tax filings show he earned $48,000 that year.
Paige’s lawyer accused him of lying about his income and said that in his 2008 tax return he claimed to earn $5,100 a month - but it was actually $7,1500.

In her affidavit Paige also alleged that Franklin had done ‘extremely well’ in construction, and in 2008 alone put $168,000 in their bank account.
The final terms of the divorce were that Paige got custody of Morgan and that Franklin would pay $570 per month in child support.
There was no mention of what happened to Dylann.
Franklin did not return calls for comment but neighbours at his house in Columbia said he was an 'easygoing guy' who likes to take holidays in Florida.

Franklin's home is a two-storey property in a working-class area of Columbia.
On the porch at the front is a sign that reads: 'Harley Davidson Parking Only.'

A Stars and Stripes flag hangs off a pole from the front of the house.
When DailyMail.com went to the house, Roof's sister Amber shouted: 'We've called the police. You've got to go.'
Three squad cars arrived and Franklin came out the house but refused to comment.
He pointed at the officers and said: 'I'll let them deal with you'.
DailyMail.com also visited the house of Roof's grandparents Joseph, 77, a prominent local lawyer, and Lucy, 76. Joseph answered the door and said: 'I've got three phones ringing and I'm trying to deal with this.'
His wife said: 'No comment, no comment,' and closed the door.
Roof's last known address is a ranch-style home on a main road in Eastover, a 30-minute drive north-east of Columbia, owned by Danny Beard.
A sign outside one of the properties reads: 'Peaceful Acres'. A Stars and Stripes flag hangs over the front porch.
Beard appears to be a patriot as there is a large shed on the grounds with more than a dozen vintage-style plates and signs, including the logo for gun maker Smith and Wesson.
Another reads: 'Don't Tread On Me' whilst others are for Route 66, Indian Motorcycles, Boar's Nest - a barbecue restaurant in Columbia - Winchester Rifles and the Ford Motor Company.
One bears the words 'Land of the Free'. Another has an American Eagle with the message: 'Everyone Remembers. No one forgets. POW MIA.'
A man who spoke from behind the locked front door said: 'This is private property, leave.'
Numerous other relatives of the Roof family told DailyMail.com to 'get off the property' when approached. .

Dad with history of DV, "custody disputes" guns down mom and kills her in front of 7-year-old daughter (Monmouth County, New Jersey)
In many way a classic DV homicide. Mom had just left this violent control freak--one of the most riskiest times for women. Plus Dad PHIL SEIDLE was a cop who played at being model citizen, meaning he was becoming increasingly emboldened over time.
The custody "dispute" fits right in with the abuser's need for ongoing control over his victims. By demanding more time in his children's lives, he could continue his abuse of the family.

A recently divorced New Jersey police officer accused of chasing and gunning down his ex-wife with his service weapon as their youngest daughter watched made his first court appearance Wednesday and entered a not guilty plea.
A shackled Neptune Township police Sgt. Phil Seidle, 51, was led into Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Honora O'Brien Kilgallen's courtroom, where he was formally charged with first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.
He continues to be held in jail on $2million, as his attorney's efforts to have the bail amount lowered to $1.2million proved unsuccessful.
Judge Killgallen rejected the request for a lower bail and ordered Seidle to have no contact with his children or his late ex-wife's family, reported NJ.com. The 51-year-old also must surrender his passport.
Defense attorney Edward Bertucio argued that his client was an upstanding member of the community and a veteran law enforcement officer who was not a flight risk.
But Marc LeMieux, first assistant prosecutor for Monmouth County, contended that facing a first-degree murder charge that carries a 30 years to life sentence could drive Seidle to flee.

Dressed in a yellow jail garb, a teary-eyed Seidle was observed mouthing the words 'I love you' to his relatives seated in the courtroom.
Seidle had his 7-year-old daughter in the front seat of his car while he pursued a black Volkswagen Jetta driven by his ex-wife, Tamara, shortly before 11.30am Tuesday.
The chase ended moments later when Tamara Seidle crashed into a parked car.
Philip Seidle then emerged from his vehicle and fired his .40-caliber Glock service weapon several times into the woman's vehicle through the driver's side, fatally wounding her, according to police.
He then pointed the gun at his head, but changed his mind, made his way around the Jetta and fired more rounds through the windshield, said Charles Webster, spokesman of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, during a press conference.
Questions have been raised about the actions of the arresting officers, who chose not to shoot Seidle when he briefly stopped firing on his wife.
'That's under investigation at this point in time,' said prosecutor Marc Lemieux.
Police officers who happened to be in the neighborhood for an unrelated traffic accident saw the shooting unfold and took the child from her father's silver Honda Pilot. The girl apparently was not injured.
Tamara Seidle, 51, was taken to a hospital, where she died a short time later. No other injuries were reported in the shooting.
The shooting was followed by a 30-minute police standoff, during which Seldie held a gun to his head before officers convinced him to surrender. He was then taken into custody.
The couple had nine children, ranging in age from 7 to 24, and their divorce was finalized late last month. Authorities say the shooting apparently was spurred by an ongoing child custody dispute.
Michael Terrell, who witnessed the shooting, told the Asbury Park Press that Seidle was yelling at his ex-wife about their child custody fights, how he was tired of paying her alimony and having limited access to their children.
'The guy was in the middle of the street,' Terrell told the newspaper. 'He was saying, "I'm tired of going to court."'
Seidle then raised his gun, firing multiple shots at the woman.
'It was shocking,' Terrell said.
Another eyewitness, Trina Poysner, recalled hearing Seidle cry out in despair: 'My kids, my kids! I'm not going to see them anymore.'
Seidle, 51, is a US Navy veteran who served as a sergeant with the Neptune Township Police Department. He has served on the force for 22 years.
Township resident Dianna Harris told the newspaper that Seidle was a popular officer who cared about the community. Harris, who is president of the Neptune-based Midtown Urban Renaissance Corporation, said Seidle would often visit the nonprofit group's community garden.
'He was a well-respected cop in the area,' Harris said. 'Nobody knows what triggered this, and that's what makes it so sad.'
But court documents paint a starkly different picture of the well-respected law enforcement official and model family man.
In a complaint filed by Tamara Seidle two years ago, the mother of nine accused her husband of nearly 25 years of holding a gun to her head while she was pregnant.
On another occasion, the officer allegedly kicked his wife in the stomach while she was pregnant.
In her divorce complaint, Mrs Seidle described her spouse as a violent man who was addicted to pornography and video games, and who was unfaithful to her in the course of their tumultuous marriage.
Susan Doremus, who worked with Tamara Seidle during Neptune school athletic events and booster club functions, said the 51-year-old was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010.

Custodial dad on trial for murder of 1-year-old son (Tarrant County, Texas)
Take notice of how many paragraphs have to be slogged through before it is revealed that abusive father WILLIE LOUIS JACKSON was CUSTODIAL.
Yes, the mother had committed a property crime (burglary), and her arrest made it impossible for her to care for her children. But by all accounts, the maternal grandmother was doing a fine job as a caretaker.
Yet as we know, Texas is a big fathers rights state, so of course Daddy's rights take precedence over everything else. And notice that Dad assumed custody of the child without any advance warning to the grandmother or her approval.
This murder is absolutely linked to the ascendance of fathers rights ideology, and the idea that any father--no matter how violent or demented--has "rights" that trump everyone else's, The opinions and wishes of mothers and grandmothers--the traditional and time-honored caregivers--mean nothing. The well-being of children means nothing. The fact that a baby boy who had already been traumatized by the loss of his mother was being forcibly shuffled off to yet another home--when he was doing well with his grandmother--means nothing.
The end result: Daddy's custodial "rights" directly result in the means and opportunity to fracture the skull of this baby and end his life.

Medical examiners who performed the autopsy of a 1-year-old boy who died from traumatic brain injuries while in his father’s custody detailed the child’s injuries in a Montgomery County courtroom Wednesday.
Medical examiners ruled LaMarcus Green’s death a homicide due to a recent skull fracture from blunt-force trauma.
His father, 24-year-old Willie Louis Jackson, is on trial this week on a first-degree felony injury to a child charge. Jackson faces up to 99 years in prison, if convicted.
Dr. Sara N. Doyle, a Harris County pathologist who performed the autopsy, said there were two separate incidents of blunt-force trauma in the child’s brain. The most recent injury, examiners testified, occurred shortly before LaMarcus died Oct. 23, 2013, when he was in Jackson’s care at a Conroe apartment. The injury is on the right side toward the top of his head, multiple medical examiners testified.
Another serious injury doctors noted was a skull fracture around the right eye, which showed signs of healing. Doctors estimated that fracture occurred two to eight weeks prior to LaMarcus’ death.
The issue is pertinent to both the prosecution and defense cases, since the dispute between them is whether the child suffered serious injuries before Jackson picked him up from the Dallas-Fort Worth area Sept. 21, 2013.
Assistant District Attorney Jim Prewitt told jurors Tuesday that evidence will show Jackson was responsible for LaMarcus when both skull fractures occurred.
Defense attorney E. Tay Bond, however, argues LaMarcus arrived to Conroe unhealthy and “he was already on his way out.”
Bond concedes LaMarcus’ second skull fracture was suffered around the time of the incident that led to his death, but argues the cause was an accidental injury exacerbated by his previous ailments.
Jackson told Conroe police he fed LaMarcus oatmeal, placed him on a pallet in the bedroom, then returned to the kitchen area to play video games before hearing him scream 15 minutes later.
Jackson said he checked on LaMarcus to find him gasping for air and whimpering.
Jackson later told police he took LaMarcus out of his high chair after feeding him and placed him on the floor, when the child fell forward and struck his forehead on the corner of the kitchen counter.
Jackson administered ointment on his head, placed him on the pallet then returned to playing video games.
Jackson said when he saw LaMarcus gasping for air, he began shaking the child to get a response from him.
In an audio interview with Conroe Detective Eddie Davis, Jackson said LaMarcus was clumsy and fell all the time.
Other witnesses testified the child was quiet and struggled maintaining his balance.
Dr. Glenn D. Sandberg, a Harris County forensic neuropathologist who noted hemorrhages through most of LaMarcus’s spinal cord and brain injuries, said it is unlikely the injuries were accidental.
Dr. Deborrah Pinto, a Harris County forensic anthropologist who examined LaMarcus, said the two skull fractures, while located in the same general area on the right side of the brain, never intersected. Doyle estimated the fractures were separated by about ¾-inch from the closest point, and almost 1½ inches from the farthest point.
Co-defense attorney Jerald Crow questioned whether LaMarcus already was compromised due to the initial fracture, but Doyle said she could not give an opinion having not examined LaMarcus prior to the second fracture.
Doyle said it is possible a new fracture could aggravate an older one, but that the injuries LaMarcus suffered were not likely to occur by falling from a standing height.
Police and EMS were dispatched to 231 Interstate 45 S. about 7 p.m. Oct. 22, 2013, after a call from Jackson stating his son was not breathing.
Jackson’s girlfriend Da’Zhane Shird and her mother Brenda Shird, who both testified Tuesday, tried to resuscitate Green with directions from 911 dispatchers until emergency personnel arrived.

The child’s mother, Lauren Green, is in custody at the Tarrant County jail facing burglary charges. Child Protective Services previously placed Lauren Green’s three children into her mother’s custody due to the 2012 criminal charge, according to Tuesday’s testimony.
The grandmother, Belinda Green, was influential in Jackson learning he fathered a child with her daughter but did not approve of the decision to allow LaMarcus to live with Jackson and Da’Zhane Shird.
Jackson traveled to Dallas alone Sept. 21, 2013, to pick up LaMarcus — without Belinda Green’s knowledge, she said.
Prosecutors sought to highlight that despite Lauren’s legal troubles, her children were being cared for by their grandmother, who paid for day care and arranged doctor visits. Bond, however, questioned whether LaMarcus Green could have suffered a serious head injury without his grandmother’s knowledge or recollection. Even though daycare and medical records never documented a head injury for LaMarcus Green, there were day care records showing one of the older children suffered a head injury from the same day care. Belinda Green said she did not remember the incident, but that she would have taken the child to a doctor if it appeared to be serious enough. Her testimony allowed attorneys from both sides to illustrate for the jury how LaMarcus was cared for before Jackson brought him to Conroe.
Lauren Green is expected to be transferred from the Tarrant County jail to testify for the state today.
Yes, the mother had committed a property crime (burglary), and her arrest made it impossible for her to care for her children. But by all accounts, the maternal grandmother was doing a fine job as a caretaker.
Yet as we know, Texas is a big fathers rights state, so of course Daddy's rights take precedence over everything else. And notice that Dad assumed custody of the child without any advance warning to the grandmother or her approval.
This murder is absolutely linked to the ascendance of fathers rights ideology, and the idea that any father--no matter how violent or demented--has "rights" that trump everyone else's, The opinions and wishes of mothers and grandmothers--the traditional and time-honored caregivers--mean nothing. The well-being of children means nothing. The fact that a baby boy who had already been traumatized by the loss of his mother was being forcibly shuffled off to yet another home--when he was doing well with his grandmother--means nothing.
The end result: Daddy's custodial "rights" directly result in the means and opportunity to fracture the skull of this baby and end his life.

Medical examiners who performed the autopsy of a 1-year-old boy who died from traumatic brain injuries while in his father’s custody detailed the child’s injuries in a Montgomery County courtroom Wednesday.
Medical examiners ruled LaMarcus Green’s death a homicide due to a recent skull fracture from blunt-force trauma.
His father, 24-year-old Willie Louis Jackson, is on trial this week on a first-degree felony injury to a child charge. Jackson faces up to 99 years in prison, if convicted.
Dr. Sara N. Doyle, a Harris County pathologist who performed the autopsy, said there were two separate incidents of blunt-force trauma in the child’s brain. The most recent injury, examiners testified, occurred shortly before LaMarcus died Oct. 23, 2013, when he was in Jackson’s care at a Conroe apartment. The injury is on the right side toward the top of his head, multiple medical examiners testified.
Another serious injury doctors noted was a skull fracture around the right eye, which showed signs of healing. Doctors estimated that fracture occurred two to eight weeks prior to LaMarcus’ death.
The issue is pertinent to both the prosecution and defense cases, since the dispute between them is whether the child suffered serious injuries before Jackson picked him up from the Dallas-Fort Worth area Sept. 21, 2013.
Assistant District Attorney Jim Prewitt told jurors Tuesday that evidence will show Jackson was responsible for LaMarcus when both skull fractures occurred.
Defense attorney E. Tay Bond, however, argues LaMarcus arrived to Conroe unhealthy and “he was already on his way out.”
Bond concedes LaMarcus’ second skull fracture was suffered around the time of the incident that led to his death, but argues the cause was an accidental injury exacerbated by his previous ailments.
Jackson told Conroe police he fed LaMarcus oatmeal, placed him on a pallet in the bedroom, then returned to the kitchen area to play video games before hearing him scream 15 minutes later.
Jackson said he checked on LaMarcus to find him gasping for air and whimpering.
Jackson later told police he took LaMarcus out of his high chair after feeding him and placed him on the floor, when the child fell forward and struck his forehead on the corner of the kitchen counter.
Jackson administered ointment on his head, placed him on the pallet then returned to playing video games.
Jackson said when he saw LaMarcus gasping for air, he began shaking the child to get a response from him.
In an audio interview with Conroe Detective Eddie Davis, Jackson said LaMarcus was clumsy and fell all the time.
Other witnesses testified the child was quiet and struggled maintaining his balance.
Dr. Glenn D. Sandberg, a Harris County forensic neuropathologist who noted hemorrhages through most of LaMarcus’s spinal cord and brain injuries, said it is unlikely the injuries were accidental.
Dr. Deborrah Pinto, a Harris County forensic anthropologist who examined LaMarcus, said the two skull fractures, while located in the same general area on the right side of the brain, never intersected. Doyle estimated the fractures were separated by about ¾-inch from the closest point, and almost 1½ inches from the farthest point.
Co-defense attorney Jerald Crow questioned whether LaMarcus already was compromised due to the initial fracture, but Doyle said she could not give an opinion having not examined LaMarcus prior to the second fracture.
Doyle said it is possible a new fracture could aggravate an older one, but that the injuries LaMarcus suffered were not likely to occur by falling from a standing height.
Police and EMS were dispatched to 231 Interstate 45 S. about 7 p.m. Oct. 22, 2013, after a call from Jackson stating his son was not breathing.

A father has been found guilty of causing brain damage to his baby son after his screams interrupted him playing Call of Duty.
He was found unanimously guilty by a jury of inflicting grievously bodily harm on his 18-month-old son in November 2012.
But his former partner, the baby’s mother, was unanimously found not guilty of causing cruelty by not seeking medical attention.
Her friends and family cheered in the public gallery as the jury’s verdict was given at Sheffield Crown Court this afternoon following a three week trial.
Neither of the parents, from the Dearne Valley area, can be named for legal reasons.
The court had previously heard the woman was sent to get the latest Call of Duty game Black Ops II as it was released at midnight. Her partner was left to care for their baby son while drinking Stella and playing Black Ops I.
The mother said when she returned, she checked on the baby who was asleep. She said it wasn’t until the next day she noticed her baby was going ‘purply-blue’ in the mouth.
The baby suffered a number of seizures at Barnsley Hospital on November 13, 2012, and was transferred to Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
Scans showed bleeding and swelling on the brain and bleeding to the spine.
The prosecution said the injuries were caused by the father shaking the baby.
In March 2013, the man rang police to say he had shaken the child and repeated the admission in a police interview.
He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on March 20.

A New Hampshire father who admitted that rage over a video game led him to shake his infant son on multiple occasions has been arrested, according to news reports.
Jerry Carrier, 26, told police that he shook his three-month-old baby on two separate occasions within a two-week period in January, according to the New Hampshire Union Leader.
“He was having trouble getting past a level of one of the games he was playing and got frustrated,” Newport police Sgt. Buddy Rowe told the newspaper.
Carrier was arrested on Monday and charged with two counts of first-degree assault, according to ABC affiliate WMUR, which noted that he is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday.
Police say the first assault occurred at a home in Newport, N.H., on Jan. 5, when paramedics were called for an infant “in distress,” according to the Union Leader. The child was rushed to the hospital and released but was readmitted to a different hospital the next day because the baby was “unable to keep food down,” according to the newspaper.
Two weeks later, a similar incident unfolded in Charlestown, N.H., the Union Leader reported.
“The infant was described as being limp, unresponsive, blue and eyes rolled back in its head and not breathing,” police said, according to the paper. “The mother of the child went to the residence where Carrier was with the child and brought them both to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center where it was determined that the injuries sustained were from non-accidental trauma.”
Under questioning, Carrier — who was already in custody for a separate parole violation tied to another assault – confessed to shaking his child on both occasions, according to the New York Daily News.
Police said the baby remains in state custody, but they did not have an update on the infant’s condition, according to the Union Leader.
Carrier faces up to seven years in prison if found guilty, according to the Daily News.

A Washington man has been charged with second-degree murder for beating his infant daughter to death with an X-Box controller, police say.
Authorities say Ahmed Ibrahim, 26, of Burien, smashed his 8-month-old daughter's skull on Monday and then tried to convince police that his two-year-old daughter was the one who killed the infant.
King County sheriff's deputies responded to the home Monday morning after receiving a call from the child's mother saying her baby wasn't breathing, KOMO News reports.
Deputies arrived to find the 8-month-old visibly battered with trauma to her head and her face distorted. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy found the infant had multiple skull fractures and died from severe, blunt force trauma to her head and torso.
The medical examiner's office said it is 'highly unlikely' that a two-year-old caused such damage, according to The Seattle Times.
Seattle PI reports that Cecelia Gregson, senior deputy prosecutor, described the child's murder as 'brutal and sadistic' saying that Ibrahim 'viciously beat' the child.
The child's mother told authorities that she had left the infant and her two other children -- girls aged four and two -- in the care of her husband at 12.30am. She returned home from work at 10.30am and found Ibrahim lounging in a chair with the infant resting on his chest, Seattle PI reports.
She changed her clothes then went to pick up her baby only to find the child's face distorted and her body cold to the touch. She then rushed to a nearby relative's home for help.
After obtaining a search warrant, investigators arrested Ibrahim and described him as being 'on something' saying his speech was slurred and he repeatedly nodded off.
Ibrahim described the infant as an 'aggressive child' and blamed the deceased 8-month-old for picking a fight with his two-year-old daughter who, he said, caused the infant's injuries by kicking and hitting her, KOMO News reports.
Investigators believe that the infant died shortly after Ibrahim beat her with an X-Box controller. Ibrahim denied drinking alcohol to police, but bottles of liquor were found in the home, Seattle PI reports. Ibrahim also denied abusing his children.
However, the child's mother confessed that Ibrahim has a history of beating both her and their three children, KOMO reports. He reportedly beat the children with cords and hangers often, and even forcefully squeezes their lips shut when they cry.
Ibrahim was arrested Monday and charged Thursday with second-degree murder. He is being held at the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent with bail set at $1 million.

He bonded out of Seminole County jail on Saturday. According to his arrest report, Negron was left at home with his 5-week-old daughter while his wife went to work on Oct. 7.
When she returned home, Negron told her he tried to burp the baby around 4 p.m. But the infant abruptly kicked and fell from his arms onto the bedroom floor, landing on the game controller.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police have arrested a man in connection with the death of his 1-year-old daughter earlier this month.
Christopher Storbakken, 27, was arrested on a murder charge Thursday nearly three weeks after his daughter, Harper Fowler, was found unresponsive in a home in the 3200 block of Fisher Road on Oct. 5.
Harper was later pronounced dead at Riley Hospital for Children.
IMPD homicide detectives later interviewed Storbakken and said he gave them a statement that was not consistent with his daughter’s injuries.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police have arrested a man in connection with the death of his 1-year-old daughter earlier this month.
Christopher Storbakken, 27, was arrested on a murder charge Thursday nearly three weeks after his daughter, Harper Fowler, was found unresponsive in a home in the 3200 block of Fisher Road on Oct. 5.
Harper was later pronounced dead at Riley Hospital for Children.
IMPD homicide detectives later interviewed Storbakken and said he gave them a statement that was not consistent with his daughter’s injuries.

According to the affidavit for probable cause, 20-year-old Ian Defenderfer called 911 on Oct. 3 saying that his infant son had stopped breathing. Medics said the baby’s pupils were fixed and dilated when he was taken to Community Hospital House. The infant was later transported to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health via medical helicopter.
According to police, Defenderfer said his son was crying for 30 to 45 minutes when he suddenly stopped crying and had trouble breathing. Defenderfer said he tried to rock the baby, but then placed him back in his bassinet.
According to the probable cause, after putting the baby in the bassinet, Defenderfer played a computer video game on his laptop for 41 minutes.
Court documents state that when Defenderfer saw that the infant was only breathing once every 10 seconds, he called his best friend who advised him to call 911. According to court documents, by this time, the baby may have been deprived of oxygen for anywhere from three to five minutes.
The infant’s mom told police in an interview that Defenderfer loses his temper and that there was a large hole above their bed which was caused from Defenderfer head butting the drywall when he was mad.
According to court documents, the next day, Defenderfer told the baby’s mom that he shook their baby. Hospital officials said they found visible marks and bruising on the baby’s body that day. Officials also told police the baby could be brain dead.
On Oct. 5, the infant died at the hospital, according to police.
Two days later, the Marion County Coroner determined the baby died from blunt force trauma to the head. The coroner said the baby also had signs of Shaken Baby Syndrome.
According to court documents, on Oct. 17, Defenderfer was charged with battery resulting in the death of a person younger than 14 and aggravated battery.

A father has been jailed for eight years for killing his baby daughter after being frustrated by her screaming as he tried to play a computer game.
Mark Sandland, 28, sobbed as he was sentenced for picking up five-week-old Aimee-Rose by her torso and shaking her during a sudden loss of temper.
He claimed he suffered an epileptic fit and came round to find his daughter underneath him at their flat in Church Road in St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex.
Police who attended the flat after Aimee-Rose was admitted to hospital on November 5 2012 found a PlayStation game controller on the sofa opposite the TV.
Sandland was charged with murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of lack of intent, which was accepted by the Crown.
Sentencing him at Hove Crown Court, Judge Mr Justice Sweeney said that after he inflicted the injuries, Sandland lied and sought to cover up his actions.
Prosecutor Sally Howes QC told Lewes Crown Court on Monday that Sandland's mobile phone internet history showed he logged on to a website offering tips on how to play Assassin's Creed 3 on his PlayStation at 2.22pm.
The detail of the website, giving step-by-step instruction, meant there would have been little point accessing it unless the game was being played, she added.
Mr Justice Sweeney said: "It's the Crown's case that thereafter, frustrated with the game and with Aimee-Rose screaming, you lost your temper and you assaulted her, gripping her torso hard and violently shaking her.
"Whilst it's impossible to identify the precise detail of what you did, the injuries that you caused Aimee-Rose speak for themselves."
Her injuries included bruising to her face, chest, abdomen, hip and lower limbs.
She also suffered a range of other injuries, including subdural haemorrhages in a number of locations. Some 16 minutes after Sandland logged on to the website giving tips on Assassin's Creed 3, he dialled 999.
Mr Justice Sweeney told him: "Whilst you have no recollection now of the fatal incident, it's obvious that at the time you appreciated what you had done and in consequence lied and sought to cover up what had actually happened.

ANSON, Texas - Austin Garrett, the father of the 2-year-old who drowned earlier this month, has been charged with abandoning/endangering a child.
According to the Anson Police Department, the investigation revealed that Garrett, 20, purposely left his son Brendyn outside while playing PlayStation video games with his younger brother.
Once the child arrived at Anson General Hospital, the child failed to respond to CPR and was pronounced dead at 1:55 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4.
Garrett's bond has been set at $75,000. He will be prosecuted by the Jones County District Attorney’s Office after the investigation is complete.

A father in Florida was arrested for smothering his son to death so he could get back to playing video games, police said Friday.
Cody Wygant is accused of suffocating his 16-month-old son Daymeon in an attempt to quiet him because he was crying, the Associated Press reported. Police said the father was upset because he could not focus on the video games he was playing on an Xbox. Wygant, 24, was arrested and held without bail at the Citrus County Jail.
"It is inconceivable that a father could kill his infant son- it just baffles the mind," Sheriff Jeff Dawsy told the AP. "Our only sense of relief now comes from knowing that we did exactly what we needed to do to bring justice to him swiftly. Our prayers go out to those who knew and loved Daymeon."
Daymeon Wygant was pronounced dead on Thursday when emergency responders brought him to a hospital. The father was charged with third-degree murder and child neglect.
Police said the father covered his son's nose and mouth for about four minutes before placing him in a playpen and wrapping his body and head in bedcovers, the AP reported. Cody Wygnant did not check on his son until five hours later. During that time Cody played games on his Xbox and watched episodes of the TV show "Fringe."
Daymeon had turned blue and was unresponsive by the time Cody checked on him, police told the AP.
Cody told police the baby was placed in the playpen at around 7 a.m. Thursday. But Cody admitted to suffocating the child at around 1 a.m. that morning, the AP reported.
The child's mother, Cody's girlfriend, was not home at the time of the incident. The two have another child, a 3-month-old girl, who was taken by the Department of Children and Families.
Results from an autopsy performed on the son were not released to the media.

Police arrested the unemployed 22-year-old, in the city of Taegu, South Korea, on Sunday after finding the body of his child in a suitcase wrapped in a trash bag near his home.

Delaware County authorities are investigating an alleged case of child abuse by a father on his 7-week-old son.
MUNCIE, Ind. - Delaware County authorities are investigating an alleged case of child abuse by a father on his 7-week-old son.
Police said Joshua Orick, 23, is responsible for the brain injuries his son suffered.
Officers with the Muncie Police Department said Orick was playing a video game on a tablet when he got angry with his baby for crying for about 60 to 90 seconds.
Police said Orick threw the tablet, picked up the baby and dropped the infant on his head.
"He admitted to being angry, handling the child, he gave us some scenarios, he would not put the force behind what he actually did," Muncie Police detective Sgt. Linda Cook said. The child’s mother was out shopping at the time, officials said. Police said the mother told them the child turned ghost-white, ran a fever while experiencing seizures and projectile vomited for two days before the child was taken to the hospital.
Police said on March 4 they learned the baby was still at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital and was suffering from internal bleeding around the brain.
The child was lifelined to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Doctors told police the child’s diagnosis on March 10.
"She said this is definitely non-accidental-type trauma injury, and at that point we tried to narrow down who had access to the baby," Cook said.
Orick was preliminarily charged with neglect of a dependent. Police said Orick told them he was addicted to video games.
"I don't think you can blame it on the video games, it's just the character of the person doing it," neighbor Mike Nau said.
Police said formal charges against Orick were expected to be filed soon. Police did not expect charges would be filed against the infant’s mother.
The infant is now in the custody of his maternal grandmother as authorities continue their investigation.

Delaware County authorities are investigating an alleged case of child abuse by a father on his 7-week-old son.
MUNCIE, Ind. - Delaware County authorities are investigating an alleged case of child abuse by a father on his 7-week-old son.
Police said Joshua Orick, 23, is responsible for the brain injuries his son suffered.
Officers with the Muncie Police Department said Orick was playing a video game on a tablet when he got angry with his baby for crying for about 60 to 90 seconds.
Police said Orick threw the tablet, picked up the baby and dropped the infant on his head.
"He admitted to being angry, handling the child, he gave us some scenarios, he would not put the force behind what he actually did," Muncie Police detective Sgt. Linda Cook said. The child’s mother was out shopping at the time, officials said. Police said the mother told them the child turned ghost-white, ran a fever while experiencing seizures and projectile vomited for two days before the child was taken to the hospital.
Police said on March 4 they learned the baby was still at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital and was suffering from internal bleeding around the brain.
The child was lifelined to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Doctors told police the child’s diagnosis on March 10.
"She said this is definitely non-accidental-type trauma injury, and at that point we tried to narrow down who had access to the baby," Cook said.
Orick was preliminarily charged with neglect of a dependent. Police said Orick told them he was addicted to video games.
"I don't think you can blame it on the video games, it's just the character of the person doing it," neighbor Mike Nau said.
Police said formal charges against Orick were expected to be filed soon. Police did not expect charges would be filed against the infant’s mother.
The infant is now in the custody of his maternal grandmother as authorities continue their investigation.

Dad gets 2-5 years in prison for abusing infant son; baby had multiple fractures (Brentwood, New Hampshire)
Typical story. Daddy was "in charge" of infant care for a 14-day period (because he was unemployed? Because he had visitation?) and spent the time playing video games. And no doubt getting frustrated when the baby did outrageous things like crying, needing to be fed, have diapers changed, etc. So he broke the baby's bones.
Note that Mom is being held responsible for "endangerment" even though she wasn't "in charge." Wonder if she was working to support the family while Daddy played at being a stay-at-home parent.
Since this baby was barely a month old when Daddy assaulted him, once again we have to lament the lack of paid maternity leaves in the U.S.

Raymond father gets prison time in baby abuse case

BRENTWOOD – A Raymond man who broke his infant son’s ankle last December was sentenced two to five years in state prison as part of a negotiated plea deal with county prosecutors.
Judge Kenneth McHugh also sentenced Cavan Moore, 27, to two other suspended prison sentences for breaking his infant son’s left rib and his wrist sometime between Dec. 10 and Dec. 28. 2012.
The suspended sentences – each three-to-six years – can be imposed within the next five years if Moore runs afoul of the law, according to court documents.
Moore pleaded guilty on Nov. 27 in Rockingham County Superior Court to three counts of second-degree assault.
Each charges was punishable by 3 ½ to 7 years in state prison. Prosecutors dropped another 11 counts of second-degree assault.
The baby, who suffered breaks to his ankle and ribs, was born Nov. 3, 2012, according to prosecutors.
Raymond police were called in to investigate the injuries after Moore had brought his infant son to Exeter Hospital last Dec. 28, prosecutors said.
Doctors who analyzed X-Rays taken of the baby boy concluded that he suffered from “classic child abuse fractures,” according to Assistant County Attorney Kirsten Wilson.
Prosecutors believe that Moore inflicted the injuries sometime between Dec. 14 and Dec. 28 – a period where Moore was in charge of diaper changes and taking care of the baby.
Raymond police Det. Richard Labell testified at a hearing in September that Moore told him that he may have “stepped on his son’s ankle while playing video games.” Moore later made a different statement to police saying that he may have sat on his son’s ankle.
McHugh rejected a bid by public defenders to have those statements thrown out of court.
Moore has already spent 390 days in the Rockingham County jail, which will count toward his state prison term.
Moore’s wife, Erica, is expected to plead guilty to misdemeanor child endangerment charges next month. The charges are punishable by up to a year in county jail, but she is expected to draw a suspended sentence in exchange for her plea, court records indicate.

Dad charged with murder in death of 7-month-old son; is this a custodial father? (Sydney, Australia)
Is UNNAMED DAD a custodial father? Notice the following points: there is no mention of the mother in this home though there is mention of unnamed "family members." Also notice that the father shared a bedroom with the baby.
So why does this apparently unmarried father have access to/possession of a 7-month-old infant?
No way does this guy sound fit to be a primary caregiver. He sounds like a freaking deadbeat, overgrown adolescent. The kind who plays video games all day.
This idiot starts screaming "shut the f*** up, you little f***ing faggot"--all because the baby didn't want to take his bottle.
So then the putred little sh** assaulted the baby, who later died.

Father charged with murder after baby dies

A baby boy police allege was violently shaken by his father a week ago has died in hospital.
The seven-month-old child had been in Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick after being transferred from Wollongong Hospital in a critical condition last Wednesday.
As a result of the child’s death on Saturday, police on Wednesday formally laid a charge of murder against the boy’s father in Wollongong Local Court.
The 22-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, allegedly grabbed the boy around the waist and ‘‘vigorously’’ shook him after getting frustrated when the child would not drink his bottle about 9pm last Tuesday.
The boy was admitted to hospital the following day suffering chronic bleeding on the brain.
A CT scan revealed the child had bilateral subdural haematomas, requiring staff to drill holes into his skull to relieve the pressure.
Police allege family members living with the man and the child in a house at Warrawong witnessed the shaking incident, along with the man yelling at his son to ‘‘Shut the f--- up you little f---ing faggot’’.
However, the man denied any shaking had occurred when interviewed by police last Wednesday evening.
He allegedly told police he’d been playing video games that day in the bedroom he shared with the boy when the child let out a sudden high-pitched scream.
The man picked his son up, however the child’s limbs went stiff and he screamed a further five times, police documents tendered during previous court proceedings said.
He noticed the child gasping for air and he called triple-0, which directed him to begin CPR.
Ambulance officers arrived a short time later and found the boy in cardiac arrest.
He was immediately taken to hospital, where staff noted he was showing several signs associated with a brain injury.
During a later interview with police the man allegedly said the boy had been fine when he went to sleep on Tuesday evening but woke up the following morning crying and unsettled.
He said later that day the boy began to scream and became stiff.
The man, who has been remanded in custody over the incident, was supported in court on Wednesday by several family members.
The matter will be mentioned again in February.

ROCK HILL — A Rock Hill father who went to a friend’s house to play video games while he was supposed to watch his 4-year-old son has been charged with neglect after police say a neighbor found the child wandering at an apartment complex without any clothes or supervision on Monday.
Police were sent to Market Place Apartments off Heckle Boulevard at about 11:35 a.m. after a neighbor reported finding the boy walking around in the area, according to a Rock Hill police report. The neighbor took the child to his apartment and notified apartment management.
The apartment’s manager gave police the boy’s address, where he lives with both his parents and a 2-year-old sister, the report states. The manager had been unable to contact either parent. Police found the apartment’s front door open. Officers reached the mother by phone. She told them she left for work in Charlotte at about 9 a.m., leaving the boy with his father, Antwain Sutton, 24. Typically, the boy goes to daycare but he was not able to attend on Monday.
Police spoke with Sutton, who claimed he was unaware the boy did not attend daycare that morning and left the house at about 10:30 a.m. to play video games in Rock Hill’s Sunset Park neighborhood, the report states. Officers wrote in their report that they believed Sutton was “well aware” that the boy was inside the house and deliberately left him.
Police arrested Sutton, charging him with unlawful neglect of a child, the report states. He is held at the York County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond. The child was given to his grandmother until his mother returned home from work.

Yes, I know. Just a few months ago, your Sunday paper had a lovely piece on stay-at-home dads and how cute and cuddly they are. Great fluff.
In reality, a lot of them are guys like WILLIE BROWN. Incapable of and/or unwilling to get a job and provide any financial support for their kids, so drafted into caretaking. But the male adolescent mind is not really tuned into caretaking. Especially not when you could be playing Minecraft instead. So this is the predictable result again and again.
Notice the healing injuries. This was not the first time Daddy abused the baby.

After allegedly beating his crying 4-month-old boy to death in a West Englewood bedroom, 17-year-old Willie Brown played video games, Cook County prosecutors said today.
Brown, who was Demari Brown’s primary caregiver, is charged with the Thursday beating of his son, who a witness said had been crying at a home in the 6000 block of South Honore Street, prosecutors said. At about 10 a.m., Brown was alone in the bedroom with the boy when his crying suddenly stopped, said Assistant State’s Attorney Heather Kent.
Brown then emerged from the bedroom and began playing video games, Kent said. Soon after, a witness went into the bedroom and found Demari unresponsive, she said. Brown lives on the 2400 Block of West Gladys Avenue.
The infant was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and pronounced dead. At the hospital, Brown’s girlfriend asked him what he had done to her child and he tearfully responded, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” Kent said.
Demari suffered blunt force trauma to the head, a skull fracture, internal bleeding and rib fractures, Kent said. He also had healing fractures in his ribs and a wrist, she said. The infant died of multiple blunt force injuries from child abuse, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Police said the infant was given a bath and placed in a crib for a nap by the grandmother. The baby's mother checked on the child and discovered the child was unresponsive, police said.
The victim's father was arrested Saturday and charged with first-degree murder, police said.
Judge Israel Desierto set bail today at $500,000.
