A 2-month-old boy is in critical condition after his father shook him and slammed him down, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The baby’s father, Charles Whitlow, 20, was arrested Monday on a child injury complaint, which will be changed to a murder complaint if the baby dies, police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said. The initial police incident report stated the child was dead.
The baby is hospitalized with a brain hemorrhage, according to the probable cause affidavit filed Tuesday in Oklahoma County District Court.
The affidavit states Whitlow admitted to shaking his son and “forcefully slamming him into his baby bed.” The incident happened Monday in the 6900 block of Lyrewood Lane while the baby’s mother was in the shower.
The parents brought the baby to a hospital about 7 p.m. Monday. Police said there was bruising on his head and what appeared to be a bite mark on his arm.
The baby was unresponsive and not breathing. Medical personnel placed a breathing tube in the child and transferred him to Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Center, the affidavit states.
Whitlow remained in the Oklahoma County jail Tuesday with bail set at $10,000.
