SAN ANTONIO - A Universal City man is accused of slapping and kicking his two children, leaving one with bruises and the other with broken ribs.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Rashad Smith, 29, last Friday after hearing reports from both children and conducting an investigation.

He was later arrested and charged with two counts of injury to a child.

An arrest affidavit stated that Universal City police became aware of the situation after Smith’s daughter spoke up to officials at her elementary school last month.

The affidavit said the child’s eye was bleeding and swollen shut.

The girl told police Smith had instructed her to say that she had been injured while playing or he would “put her to bed for the rest of her life.”

She eventually told them, though, that Smith had caused her injuries by slapping her in the eye, the affidavit stated.

She said he had become enraged after she turned her head and looked at him when he told her not to do so, the affidavit stated.

Police said Smith’s son also told them that when he dropped his pancakes one day, Smith had “stomped” on his side, leaving him unable to walk.

Doctors who examined the boy and determined he had suffered broken ribs, the affidavit stated.

The boy also told police that Smith sometimes holds his head underwater in the bathtub, according to the affidavit.
