Dad gets life prison sentence in murder and incest case (Kansas City, Missouri)

Dad DANIAL RINEHART is one sicko piece of sh**--and so is his enabler parent, who has the nerve to blame the mother (for working!) AND the daughter for the father's abuse. It's just never Daddy's fault, ya know.

After getting life in prison plus 22 years for incest, murder and abandonment of a baby’s corpse, Danial Rinehart on Monday gave a slight nod and smile to his mother as he left the courtroom.

Judge Jacqueline Cook told Rinehart in court that no sentence she imposed could ever take away the harm he’s done.

“But it will make sure you never do it again,” Cook said. She then ordered the maximum on each of the seven counts.

Other than acknowledging his supportive mother, Rinehart was stoic when receiving his sentence and did not speak.

Rinehart was convicted April 20 in a trial that included his daughter’s testimony that he carried on an incestuous relationship with her that began when she was 5 years old and produced four babies.

Authorities found the bodies of two infants in sealed chest-type coolers in a shed on a small farm where the family lived north of Harrisonville. Another baby died in Oklahoma and was buried there in a remote area.

Only one of the babies, a boy now 4, survives.

“I have a hole in my heart for the babies I have lost,” the daughter told the court in April, trying to hold back tears during the penalty phase of her father’s trial.

In dramatic testimony, she had told of being “my father’s sex slave” since she was 5 years old. She talked of how she missed out on so much and how she still lives in fear. The victim related how she was kept from family gatherings and dinners and forced to stay in the camper because of her father’s behavior. She and her sisters were threatened with violence if the secret were told. Her plight became known to authorities only when an older sister ran away.

The abused daughter was not in the courtroom Monday, although one of her sisters attended.

For years the family traveled from town to town in a pickup and camper. The daughter, 20, testified that Rinehart, 49, prohibited her from seeking medical help for herself or the babies.

The murder charge stemmed from the baby who died in Oklahoma. Evidence at the trial indicated the boy was ill, but Rinehart denied his daughter’s pleading that the boy see a doctor.

Despite the court’s findings, Rinehart’s mother, Delores Rinehart said of her son, “He’s done wrong, but now he’s found the Lord. I’m proud of him.”

Outside the courthouse after the sentencing, she put much of the blame on the victim — her granddaughter — and Rinehart’s wife. She contended the girl “should have spoken up if he was bothering her” and Rinehart’s wife should not have been “going to work and leaving those girls alone in the camper.”

Authorities said Linda Rinehart, the mother of the victim, knew of the abuse but did little to stop it and even helped deliver the babies in an overhead camper. She is charged with two counts of child endangerment; her trial is set for August.
