Dad charged with felony neglect of 3-month-old daughter (Henry County, Indiana)

The usual. Dad DYLON S. LAKES is charged with felony child neglect after his 3-month-old daughter ends up with fractures in both legs after Daddy handled her "roughly." Poor Daddy was "frustrated" with her crying. What else is new. I'm sure the baby was frustrated with having such a sh**ass for a father too. Oh, and we have another Clumsy Daddy claim--dropped the child on the floor. Oops! You know, I bet these guys had no problem catching a football from 30 yards back in high school. But suddenly they're uncoordinated doofuses when there's a baby involved? Don't buy it.

INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT: Note the absence of a mother in this story. Was Dad babysitting? Was there some sort of custody/visitation thing here? What?

Infant's dad held in Henry County neglect probe
The Star Press • June 9, 2010

The father of a Henry County infant faces a felony charge over allegations he hurt the three-month-old girl.

Dylon S. Lakes, 20, until recently of Knightstown, is charged with neglect of a dependent, a Class B felony carrying a standard 10-year prison term.

According to court documents, Lakes at first told authorities he did not know how his daughter ended up with fractures in both legs, but later admitted he had handled the baby roughly after becoming frustrated by her crying.

During that interview, Lakes also admitted earlier dropping the child, accidentally, onto a hardwood floor and not seeking medical attention for any injuries she might have suffered in the fall.

Bruises on the baby's buttocks also indicated she had been spanked, investigators said.

Lakes -- being held in the Henry County jail under a bond of $11,500 -- this week received an Oct. 5 trial date. Court documents list Lakes as living in Glenwood, on the Rush-Fayette County line.
