Dad arrested after 7-week-old daughter suffers broken bones (Lincoln, Nebraska)

Dad TIMOTHY CRANE has been arrested on child abuse charges after his 7-week-daughter was hospitalized with a broken arm and leg. Mom has also been cited for "failing to seek immediate care," though it's not always clear what is wrong with an abused infant. "Failure to protect" are charges that are nearly always targeted at mothers. Fathers routintely abandon their families or children--knowing that the mother is alcoholic, addicted, and/or mentally ill--and they are very seldom cited for it. One of the very few exceptions (from Texas) is discussed here:

Baby Suffers 2 Broken Bones; Father Arrested
Father Says He Tripped, Fell While Holding Baby

POSTED: 10:11 am CDT June 9, 2010

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska authorities have taken custody of a 7-week-old baby whose father is facing child-abuse allegations.

Lincoln police said 18-year-old Timothy Crane was arrested Monday. He's suspected of breaking the right arm and left leg of his baby daughter, Lillian Crane, last month.

An affidavit for an arrest warrant says Crane told hospital staff members on May 25 that he had dropped the baby when he tripped over a cat inside a Lincoln home.

Doctors told investigators that the baby's injuries didn't jibe with Crane's account.

Lillian's mother was cited for failing to seek immediate care for her baby.

A jail spokeswoman said Crane remained in custody on Wednesday.
