Dad passes out behind the wheel with cocaine, 9-year-old daughter in car (Grapevine, Texas)

Dad JAMES PHILLIP GILDENBLATT has been jailed for passing out in his car--apparently from cocaine, since cocaine was found in the car--while his 9-year-old daughter was with him. The girl has been referred to CPS, though there's not a word here on her mother or her mother's culpability in this. Once again, we have a mystery: Was this a single or custodial daddy? Did this happen during unsupervised visitation? Or did this cokehead just feel like taking off on a drive with his daughter that day?

GRAPEVINE, TEXAS - A Southlake father is in jail today after passing out in his car -- with his daughter and cocaine inside.

Grapevine police responded to a suspicious vehicle call about 12:40 a.m. today in the 300 block of Dogwood Street. Officers found James Phillip Gildenblatt, 44, asleep behind the wheel of his Mercedes.

Grapevine police Lt. Todd Dearing said officers had to knock on Gildenblatt's car window several times before Gildenblatt woke up.

"They had to tell him to put the car in park," Dearing said. "It was still in drive. He was passed out with his foot on the brake."

Officers noticed cocaine lying on the passenger seat and Gildenblatt's 9-year-old daughter in the back seat. The girl was not hurt. Police made a referral to Child Protective Services.

Gildenblatt is charged with driving while intoxicated with a child passenger and possession of a controlled substance. Dearing said the DWI charge stems from drugs, not alcohol.

Both the DWI and possession of a controlled substance offenses are state jail felonies, punishable by up to two years and a $10,000 fine.

Gildenblatt is expected to bond out of the Grapevine jail by the end of today.
