Dad caught abusing 5-month-old son after baby's aunt catches him on video (Wales)

Dad accused of child cruelty after son's aunt set up phone to record him
By South Wales Evening Post | Posted: April 23, 2014
A DAD has gone on trial accused of cruelty after his son's aunt set up her iPhone to capture him allegedly assaulting his son.
The prosecution say he took "malicious satisfaction" from bullying the five-month-old.
His partner's sister told police she set her phone to video the man while he was left alone with the baby.
The aunt said she wanted to get to the bottom of why the baby had started regularly getting upset when left alone with his father.
The father denies the charge of cruelty at Swansea Crown Court, saying the actions he took against his sleeping child were to check if he was still breathing.
He said the first, a push of the head, was to move the sleeping baby's head away from him in case he woke, saw him and began crying.
The rest all took place within around a minute.
The alleged assault took place while the baby's mother, sister and her partner, were outside smoking.
They had left the baby sleeping in a bouncer chair, but shortly after going outside, when they heard the child crying, they came back inside.
In opening the case to the jury, prosecutor Patrick Griffiths said the baby had been "causing no problem at all" but that the video showed the dad: "repeatedly and roughly moving his head for no good reason.
As if he wanted to get the baby to cry, deriving some sort of malicious satisfaction from bullying this little boy and getting this satisfaction out of what he was doing, quite unnecessarily."
Giving evidence to the court, the mother said she initially felt sorry for her partner because he worked away and thought he had not bonded well with the baby.
But she said she noticed the baby would always cry or curl his legs up when left alone with his dad.
After her sister showed her the video she told him to leave.
John Hipkin, representing the dad, asked the child's mother about her relationship with her now-former partner.
She said during her pregnancy her partner had been supportive, but that once he left his job, around six weeks before the incident, he "didn't bother" with the child.
The trial continues.

Sasha murder probe: father charged
The father of a 17-year-old girl found stabbed to death has been charged with her murder.
Gary Fisher, 47, of Solihull, West Midlands, will appear before Llanelli Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
The body of Chanelle Sasha Jones, known to her friends as Sasha, was found in a Ford Fiesta in Aberaeron, Ceredigion, West Wales, on Sunday.
The teenager had been reported missing by a family member earlier in the day. The car was stopped by officers from Dyfed Powys Police and Fisher was arrested at the scene.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Sasha, from Cardigan, had died of stab wounds.
The way in which officers dealt with the missing person report is to be investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
IPCC Commissioner for Wales Tom Davies said: "I would like to add my condolences to Sasha's family and friends for their tragic loss. We are arranging to meet her family to explain our role.
"The IPCC investigation will be carried out by our own investigators and they will be looking at whether the police response to the missing person report was proportionate and timely.
"The IPCC investigators will also look at the force's missing person risk assessment and whether the police had any previous intelligence to take account of.
"The police murder investigation will take primacy at this stage and I would like to assure Sasha's family and the public that the IPCC will ensure that its investigation will not impede the Dyfed Powys Police criminal investigation.

Study: Vast majority of violent dads only want contact with kids to maintain power and control (Wales)

Report highlights ongoing violence
Nov 1 2012
The family justice system is failing to protect women who are the victims of domestic violence, a report has said.
The study found that most women wanted their child or children to have a relationship with their father despite having suffered violence from them.
But the report, carried out by the charity Rights of Women and the Child and Woman Abuse Studies Unit (CWASU) at London Metropolitan University, found that although they wanted this contact to only be if they and their children were physically and emotionally safe, this was often not the case, with unsupervised contact routinely given to abusive fathers.
All of the women interviewed experienced ongoing violence and abuse post-separation from their partners, with nearly half (45%) experiencing violence after the making of a contact order, most commonly in the form of threats and harassment.
It found that judges are often not following law and procedure in child contact cases where domestic violence is an issue, with only one in 10 legal professionals saying judges fully comply with court practice in dealing with domestic violence.
The study found that just under three-quarters (74%) of women interviewed said they had concerns for their safety while attending court hearings, and more than half (52%) had represented themselves in court proceedings at some stage.
Despite histories of violence, children refusing contact and in some cases expressing terror and distress, unsupervised contact was found to be routinely ordered to abusive fathers.
The report also showed that nearly four out of five (79%) legal professionals reported that regaining power and control was a primary motivation behind applications for child contact by violent fathers.
And 90% of the women questioned identified some degree of impoverishment as a result of the legal proceedings, commonly because they were unable to work.
Emma Scott, director of Rights of Women, said: "Despite significant developments in the law and policy on domestic violence and child contact in the last 10 years, this research shows ongoing failures and missed opportunities within the family justice system."

Dad gets "indefinite" term in medium secure psychiatric unit for stabbing murder of 2-year-old son, son's mother (Wales)
The killer dad is identified as DAVID WYN JONES.
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/2012/08/24/family-killings-david-wyn-jones-given-indefinite-term-at-secure-unit-91466-31693067/
Mentally ill father David Wyn Jones given indefinite term at secure unit for killing son and wife
By Glyn Bellis, WalesOnline Aug 24 2012
A mentally ill father who stabbed his two-year-old son and wife to death at their family home in North Wales has been sent to a secure psychiatric unit for an indefinite time.
David Wyn Jones, 42, of Tremadog, Gwynedd, a former insurance salesman, was sent to the unit after he admitted their manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
Sending him to Ty Llywelyn medium secure unit at Llanfairfechan, Judge Merfyn Hughes QC told Jones: “For many years your wife cared for you both in good and more difficult times. It’s clear from the evidence before me she died in a desperate but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to save the life of her child.
“William was only two, an innocent and defenceless victim. What you did to both of them was dreadful and terrifying.
“It’s to be hoped at least William was too young to fully understand the threat he was under until it was too late.”
Speaking at Caernarfon Crown Court, the judge said Jones had become “totally overcome by your delusional beliefs”.
Suzanne Jones, 34, had been strangled and stabbed to the chest on the night of March 30 this year. William had six major stab wounds to the chest and neck. Their bodies lay close to each other.
Prosecuting counsel Simon Mills said: “When police arrived the defendant admitted what he had done. He was saying he had been setting out to save the world.”
The tragedy happened in Glanmorfa Terrace. Mr Mills said a large kitchen knife was used. “The incident appears to have been protracted and there’s very clear evidence Suzanne fought the defendant to try and save William’s life,” he said.
The prosecutor said there had been no warning of what was to occur although the defendant had displayed paranoid behaviour for some time.
“These events took place on what was a normal, routine day in the context of this family,” Mr Mills said.
He said the defendant had physical health problems and suffered anxiety, stress and depression. But he had a good relationship with his wife who became his carer.
“He began to develop paranoid thoughts that were entirely baseless, such as people were trying to hack into his computers,” Mr Mills said.
“It’s the view of the prosecution psychiatric expert that the defendant suffered a very serious deterioration in his mental health during the course of 2011.”
On the night of the killing, a police constable had arrived at the house within minutes of a 999 call. “He began making references to the devil and saving humanity,” the barrister said.
“The defendant said ‘What have I done? How could I have done that? I have killed them both. I have killed the people I love most in the world.”
Jones was taken to Caernarfon police station where he said in the two weeks before the killing he had become increasingly preoccupied by the bible and thought he had to save the world.
Suzanne’s mother, Eileen Holt, said in a statement outlined to the judge: “I have lost my very best friend, my only child.” She described William as a “sweet, sweet, funny grandson”.
Mrs Holt said the last evening she saw them he was helping to prune trees. “His loss is indescribable,” she added.
Elwen Evans QC, defending, said a hospital order was appropriate. The QC said the firm opinion of all the psychiatrists involved in the case was that the offences arose from a very severe mental illness.
The judge said the stark choice for the court was a sentence of life imprisonment or a hospital order. He made an order under the Mental Health Act.
Detective Inspector Iestyn Davies of North Wales police said afterwards: “No form of sentence will ever heal the pain that family and close friends have suffered since the killings. They have shown enormous courage, strength and dignity throughout the investigation. They have maintained throughout that all they wish to see is for justice and fairness to prevail.”

British Father Exposed As Pedophile After Home Burglarized

WREXHAM, Wales - A British woman said she is grateful her home was burglarized because it exposed her father as a pedophile.
Lizzie Pethig, 34, was distraught when a raider stole jewelry, cash and computers from the house she shared with her parents David and Denise Pethig.
But her anguish turned to disgust when the thief tipped off police he had found more than 8,500 depraved child porn images on David Pethig's laptop.
Speaking after her father, 59, was given a 12-month suspended jail term, Lizzie Pethig said, "Dad's betrayal has changed my life forever. But part of me is glad that we got burgled."
"That thief had a conscience -- which is more than my father had. If he hadn't been found out, he'd probably still be downloading child porn," she added.
Chef Lizzie Pethig and her mom -- who was married to David Pethig for 35 years -- now have moved into a new home away from her dad.
They were forced to move out after vigilantes ransacked the home in Wrexham, North Wales, where the family lived for over 30 years.
The thief left David Pethig's laptop in a derelict house before alerting police, and word of the vile porn stash had gone around the local estate.
Lizzie Pethig -- who was working away in Oxford when the burglar struck last April -- said, "Dad didn't seem too concerned. He just told us the insurance would cover it. But then the house was targeted again -- and this time it was completely trashed."
The police then told Lizzie Pethig and her mom Denise, 59, what the thief had found on the laptop.
Factory worker David Pethig claimed he had downloaded just a few images of teenagers. But the truth came out when he appeared at North Wales' Mold Crown Court last November.
There were 8,500 images and 400 videos, including some rated at the worst level. As well as his suspended term, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years after admitting 17 charges of making indecent images.
His wife said, "He really should have gone to jail."

Jail for "doting dad" who killed 5-month-old son (Heol Brychan, Bargoed, Wales)

Jail for father who killed his baby son
by Suzanne Evans, Rhymney Valley Express
Jun 23 2011
A FIVE-MONTH-OLD baby died in his mother’s arms after being fatally injured by a father who was said to dote on him.
David Morris, 28, had shaken his tiny son Jay causing brain damage and had squeezed him hard enough to cause his liver to tear, but he said nothing as eight different doctors examined him.
Instead he claimed the child just had wind and, after experts discovered the injuries, let blame fall on his girlfriend and saw her arrested for murder.
Morris eventually owned up and pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Jailing him for six and a half years, a judge told him: “It was callous and selfish behaviour.”
Teenage mum Nikki Paine – who was only 19 when Jay was born and when he died – said afterwards: “As a result of his lies I have spent 18 months accused of killing my baby and have not even been able to begin grieving.
“He stole precious moments I should have had with my son.
“I had everything I ever wanted and now I have nothing.”
In a statement, Nikki also revealed how their older child had been taken into care following Jay’s death, and how she had also had to move away from the Bargoed area – where she felt everyone had turned against her – to return to her family in Bridgend.
She had dialled 999 when she found her child sick in his Moses basket at 6am on December 10, 2009.
The night before, after she had returned from watching her niece perform in a nativity play, she had left Jay, at Morris’ request, in his baby bouncer while his father was on the computer.
Police later found Morris had been online until 4am, and again for another hour from 5am.
He had then put Jay at the side of Nikki’s bed and left their home at Heol Brychan, Bargoed.
He went to a drug dealer in Aberbargoed at 6.30am before visiting his grandmother, where he learned an ambulance was on its way to his son.
Prosecutor John Charles Rees QC said: “He turned white and started to shake then ran out and took a taxi home.
“Once there he told Ms Paine there had been no need for her to call the ambulance because there was nothing wrong with the baby and it must just be wind.”
Jay was taken to Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil, where at first he showed no signs of serious injury and was admitted to a ward. But his condition deteriorated and had difficulty breathing.
Mr Rees said: “Following a brain scan he was transferred to the University Hospital of Wales.
“David Morris told staff the baby had fallen out of his bouncer the week before.”
The next morning Morris was told his son was unlikely to recover and the court heard he cried uncontrollably when the baby was later pronounced brain dead and was put in his mother’s arms.
David Aubrey QC, in mitigation, said Morris had a turbulent childhood before being adopted by grandparents.
“They are devoted to him and he to them,” he said. “And his children were everything to him – they were his life and he is devastated.”
Recorder of Cardiff Nicholas Cooke QC said it was accepted that Morris had not intended to cause harm, let alone kill, and there had been no long-term illtreatment of Jay.
No-one would ever know why he lost his temper and picked up the baby and shook him.
“You have never been prepared to tell us why,” he told Morris.

A FATHER who was reported to the police by his own son has faced 26 charges of possessing indecent photographs of children.
Ian Morris, of Hospital Road, The Common, appeared at Pontypridd Magistrates’ Court on Friday, September 3, where he made no plea to the charges.
The 55-year-old was arrested after his son called the police.
Prosecutor Kayleigh Simmons said: “His son had contacted the police due to suspicions that he was downloading child pornography.
“The police went to his address to search the premises and seize computer equipment. The computer was taken for examination and 22 Level One images were found, as well as four Level Two images.”
Levels One and Two are at the lower end of the Copine Scale, a rating system to categorise the severity of child pornography.
Magistrates adjourned the case until October 1.

"Violent father" gets life sentence for murder of 17-year-old daughter (Cardigan, Wales, United Kingdom)
We've posted on this case before. Seems Daddy was miffed that his daughter wanted to spend more time with her boyfriend, and less time with the old man. A lot of abusers start to treat their daughters with the same violent control tactics that they inflict on all their "women"--and Fisher was obviously one of them.

FATHER GARY FISHER JAILED FOR MURDERING DAUGHTER SASHA JONES
Sasha Jones, also known as Chanelle, was murdered by her father
Tuesday March 30,2010
By John Twomey
A VIOLENT father was jailed for life for the murder of his teenage daughter yesterday and told the judge: “Thank you.”
Gary Fisher was branded a wicked liar for killing Sasha Jones, 17, and then pretending it was an act of mercy.
Fisher, who once beheaded an ex-lover’s cat, claimed he wanted to end his daughter’s suffering after she was raped at 14. But earlier this month a jury at Swansea Crown Court found him guilty of murder.
Mr Justice Lloyd Jones sentenced him to life with a minimum of 20 years, so he will be 68 before he can be considered for parole. Fisher replied: “Thank you.”
Fisher, who has a long history of violence and harassment towards women, stabbed Sasha 22 times with a hunting knife.
He had picked her up in his Ford Fiesta from her mother’s home in Cardigan last August.
Sasha, also known as Chanelle, desperately tried to fight him off and suffered appalling defensive wounds before she died. Fisher, of Solihull, West Midlands, then drove around for 10 hours with his daughter’s body under a blanket in the front seat.
At one point, he drove past Sasha’s mother, Jayne Jones, and was seen to smirk and look up to the sky.
Mrs Jones later reported Sasha missing and Fisher was stopped. He told detectives that they had entered into a suicide pact because she could not come to terms with the rape. But the judge told Fisher: “Your claim that you killed her as an act of mercy is an obvious and wicked lie.”
Christopher Clee, prosecuting, said Fisher had previously been jailed for harassment after leaving a stolen gravestone outside a woman’s house. “He killed her cat, leaving its head on her doorstep,” he added.
Mrs Jones said after the case: “It upsets me how awful and petrifying those last few hours must have been for Chanelle.”

Dad admits assault on newborn son; says baby "hated him" (Flintshire, Wales, United Kingdom)
And it seems this Daddy has a relatively new excuse, at least for a newspaper account. He didn't get "frustrated" or "snap" or anything. No, he was jealous of the way the baby "would settle with his mother," but not with Daddy. So in Daddy's twisted mind, this meant the baby "hated him," which I suppose made this sicko Dad feel justified in beating him.
Makes me wonder how many dads do abuse the babies because they are jealous of the biological connection between mothers and infants. Probably more than the news articles let on.

Flintshire man jailed for assaulting baby son
A man who admitted assaulting his baby son has been jailed for four-and-a-half years at Mold Crown Court.
The man, 34, of Broughton, Flintshire, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted grievous bodily harm charges.
He admitted two further assaults on the child, who was less than 10 weeks old at the time. Injuries included a fractured skull and broken ribs.
The court heard the man had the irrational belief his son hated him but was genuinely remorseful and ashamed.
The court was told that the man would become angry at the way his the child would settle with his mother, but not with him.
The baby's mother took him to a well baby clinic last November, concerned that he was unwell. A health visitor became worried, a doctor was called and the child was referred to the Countess of Chester Hospital, the court heard.
Examinations and X-rays showed the baby had a fractured skull, six fractured ribs, a broken bone in his right foot, and bruising to the head and body.
'Rib fractures'
Emmalyn Downing, prosecuting, said both mother and father were arrested. When interviewed, the man said he did not cause the injuries and had no explanation for them, but a couple of weeks later he walked into his local police station and said that he wanted to confess.
Judge John Rogers QC said: "There were several rib fractures, his skull was fractured, he had a fracture to the bone in his foot.
"In addition there was an injury to his mouth and bruising to his forehead.
"Those injuries had been caused during several separate assaults."
Karl Scholz, defending, said that the man had described "what could only be said to be an irrational belief that the baby in some way hated him".
He said his client had no convictions, was genuinely remorseful and ashamed.
An order was made in court that the victim should not be identified.

Father convicted of Sasha's murder

A jealous father who stabbed his teenage daughter to death was convicted of murder yesterday.
Gary John Fisher, 48, was angry when Sasha Jones told him she wanted to spend more time with a boyfriend and less time with him.
He lost his temper and stabbed her in the face and then twice in the heart as she sat in his car trapped by the seat belt she was wearing.
Fisher then covered her body with a sleeping bag and drove around west Wales for more than 10 hours.
At one point he drove past Sasha's home and waved at her mother, his ex-partner Jayne Jones, with a smirk on his face.
Miss Jones could not see her daughter's body slumped in the front passenger seat of his Ford Fiesta.
The alarm was raised after Fisher telephoned a niece and told her, "I have done something wrong. You don't want to know what."
Police laid a stinger device across the road but it only slowed Fisher down.
Shortly afterwards he swerved into a layby and smashed into a parked camper van.
He later told doctors and a nurse Sasha had been raped three years earlier and could not cope with the emotional pain. He claimed they had formed a suicide pact but after killing Sasha he could not bring himself to die.
But Chris Clee QC, prosecuting at Swansea crown court, described the claim as "nonsense."
Sasha, he said, had been making plans to go to college and only the night before her death had texted her boyfriend saying she could not wait to see him--as soon as Fisher had left her home in Cardigan, west Wales and return to his in Solihull, near Birmingham.
"He was jealous and controlling," said Mr Clee. "No-one would have chosen to be stabbed to death."
A jury took just 60 minutes to convict hin unanimously of murder The judge, Mr Justice Lloyd Jones, said he would receive a life sentence when he was sentenced later. But he would fix the minimum number of years he must serve behind bars only after he had studied psychiatric reports.
Fisher showed no emotion as he was led away.
Jayne Jones said afterwards, "No life should end with that suffering.
"My beautiful daughter is missed more and more as time goes by."
She said the thoughts of Sasha's last moments haunted her.
But even now she did not want revenge against Fisher and did not wish him harm.

Dad claims "suicide pact" in his stabbing of 17-year-old "raped" daughter (Aberaeron, Wales)
He would have us believe that he stabbed his 17-year-old daughter to death under a "suicide pact" formed after the daughter became depressed after being raped. She was suffering, you see, and Daddy just wanted to help her.
Um yea. If you believe that, contact me regarding some investment "opportunities."
More interesting facts (if you read further):
1) The daughter had never filed a rape report with the police, and no one else seems to recall a report of a rape either.
2) Mom and dad were separated.
3) Dad (in what is a typical abuser/control freak fashion) calls the daughter a "slag" ("slut" for American readers) because she wants to spend time with her boyfriend, not Dad. Very intimidating thing for abusers, letting their teen daughters grow up and live their own lives. In fact, Dad's reaction is just about classic. Abusers are always slut-baiting their former partners, and as time goes by, the daughters tend to get slut-baited too. Can't have any sign of female independence, especially female sexual independence, you know.
It was on a visit shortly after that "dispute" that Dad stabbed her to death in a dark area of a parking lot.
In other words, this is not a "pact" murder-suicide, or even a failed "pact"--not in any way, shape, or form.
However, it is typical of father-committed murders that take place during child visitation (or access). Any sign that the former partner or children are exerting independence from the father's obsessive control must be put down and "punished" with violence.
'Suicide pact father killed raped daughter, 17, in car to end her suffering'
By Luke Salkeld

'Pact': Sasha Jones, 17, was stabbed to death and her body was found in the footwell of a car near Aberaeron, Wales
A father claims he stabbed his teenage daughter to death and left her dead body in the passenger seat of his car because she wanted to die after being raped.
Gary Fisher says he entered into a 'suicide pact' with 17-year-old Sasha Jones after she was sexually assaulted.
The 47-year-old killed his daughter by stabbing her repeatedly with a hunting knife and then called members of her family to confess what he had done, a court heard.
He then led police on a country car chase with Sasha's dead body in the passenger seat which ended when officers lay a 'stinger' device across a road, causing Fisher to crash.
Today prosecutors dismissed Fisher's claim that his daughter had wanted to die after suffering a sex attack, and that he acted to 'end her suffering'.
Prosecutor Chris Clee QC said Fisher had confessed to hospital staff that he had killed his daughter with the hunting knife.
He said: '[Fisher] said his daughter told him she wanted to die. He said he planned it for the last two and a half months.
'He said "I felt she was suffering and I wanted to help her to die".'
The court heard Fisher later claimed to police that his daughter had been raped - and she 'couldn't live with the thought of that'.
But Mr Clee told Swansea Crown Court: 'Sasha made no such complaint to police.'
The court heard the teenager had twice been admitted to hospital in the past after taking overdoses - but medical staff did not believe they were genuine suicide attempts.
The court heard Fisher was separated from Sasha's mother Jane Jones, who lived with her three children in Cardigan, West Wales.
Fisher, who lived in Solihull, West Midlands, had last summer argued with Sasha and called her a 'slag' after she wanted to be with her boyfriend instead of him.
It was during a visit to see his daughter in August that they drove around the local area before stopping in a pub car park where the killing took place, the court heard.
Mr Clee continued: '[Fisher] stopped the car behind the Angel Hotel in a shady area so nobody could see him.'
The court heard Fisher later told police: 'I got out of the car, took the knife, went to the passenger door and opened it.
'She was shocked to see the knife and tried to get away. But she couldn't because of the seat belt.'
Mr Clee said: 'He said he stabbed her many times and she was struggling. During the struggle, he missed her once and ended up stabbing himself in the arm.
'He said he covered her with a sleeping bag and reclined the seats.'
The court heard Fisher drove around with her bloodied body in the car but then rang his sister Susan Mabbatt to confess to killing Sasha.
But the telephone was answered by his niece Zoe Mabbatt, 16, whom he told: 'I'm really sorry but I've done something wrong.'
The court heard Zoe asked what had happened and Fisher replied: 'I don't think you want to know.'
He then rang back to tell her: 'I'm sorry but I've just killed your eldest cousin. She is lying in the car freezing.'
Police were alerted by the family and his silver Ford Fiesta was spotted near the seaside village of Aberaeron.
He refused to stop and police pursued his car. A stinger device was put in the roadway and Fisher crashed into a camper van moments later.
Mr Clee said Fisher claimed it was a 'suicide pact' between the father and daughter.
He said: 'But this wasn't in any way, shape or form a suicide pact. It is simply an attempt by him to avoid his responsibility for what he did.'
Fisher denies murder. The trial continues.

A father-to-be was today convicted for trying to murder his heavily pregnant girlfriend so he could benefit from her will and start again with another woman.
Simon Morris, 37, attacked Nerys Price, 35, while she slept in bed at their home in Calthorpe Drive, Prestatyn, North Wales, in August 2008.
Morris, who denied attempted murder and attempted child destruction, hit his partner in the head with a hammer and covered it up to look like a burglary gone wrong.
Mold Crown Court had heard that the Denbighshire Council highways officer stood to land several hundred thousand pounds from Ms Price’s death.
In the run-up to the attack he was “the driving force” behind them changing their wills.
Her death would have made him the sole beneficiary.
He was tried in May but the jury failed to reach a verdict.
Today, a jury of eight men and four women found him guilty after a three-week trial.
Standing in the dock, Morris wiped away tears as Judge Merfyn Hughes QC told him he had committed a ``shocking'' crime.
The judge said: “The jury have convicted you on the basis of compelling evidence.
“To have tried to kill your partner within just a few weeks of her giving birth is, in my opinion, quite a shocking and aggravating feature.
“It was a wicked and callous attempt to rid yourself of a partner who was willing to have your child and who had done nothing but give you love and affection.”
Morris was jailed for 25 years for the attempted murder of Ms Price and a further 25 years, to be served concurrently, for the attempted destruction of his daughter.
He looked to the floor, shaking his head, as he was sent down.
'Devastation at betrayal'
In her victim impact statement, which was read to the court by Simon Medland, prosecuting, Ms Price spoke of her devastation at Morris's betrayal.
She said she considered herself fortunate to have been expecting his child and they had planned the baby together.
She added that she loved being pregnant and she loved “Bob” – the couple’s pet name for their unborn baby.
She said: “Now, when I see other pregnant women I feel cheated because my memories of that time are tainted because of Simon Morris’s deceit.
“I believed I had a loving and doting partner and bright future.
“I loved and trusted Simon implicitly and I had no doubts about the relationship.”
Following the attack Ms Price was taken to hospital, where she later gave birth by emergency Caesarean section to daughter Freya, now aged 14 months.
In her victim impact statement, she said: “I still can’t believe he was responsible for all this and I feel totally stupid.
“I feel angry that someone I loved so implicitly could do this to me and our unborn child.
“I worry for Freya’s future. How do I explain what her father did and tried to do?
“I worry that she will be bullied at school and that she will be an only child.
“I worry that one day she will want to meet him and he will tell her all sorts of lies and she will blame me.”
Morris, a former nightclub bouncer who is 6ft 6in and 15 stone, bowed his head as the jury at Mold Crown Court returned its unanimous verdicts following almost six hours of deliberations.
Relatives of Morris and Ms Price in the public gallery gasped when the verdict was read out by the jury foreman.
The trial heard that Morris hit defenceless Ms Price, 35, twice in the head with the sharp end of a bricklayer’s hammer when she was 38 weeks pregnant with his child.
She told the jury that when she woke up she asked Morris to call the police but remembered seeing sevens and nines on his phone as he attempted to dial 999.
"It appeared that he was trying to ring the police but was clearly missing the numbers," she said.
After calling the emergency services herself, she was taken to hospital where she later gave birth by emergency Caesarean section to daughter Freya once she had been treated for a fractured skull.
When she was released from hospital, Ms Price stayed at her father’s house and started to have doubts about Morris’s "peculiar behaviour", the court heard.
He was arrested on August 23 last year, eight days after the attack.
Ms Price, a £50,000-a-year human resources manager for a local building firm, and Freya have since made a full recovery, the jury were told.
Patrick Harrington QC, prosecuting, told the jury Morris attacked Ms Price for "two of the oldest motives known to us all".
He said the defendant planned to build a new life with another woman, Kate Christian, a mother of two he had met in a bar in St Asaph several months before the attack on Ms Price.
Mr Harrington said Morris planned to pay for it all with the cash he stood to inherit on the death of Ms Price.
Morris would have initially received about £145,000 in Ms Price’s service pension benefit and in total he would have landed hundreds of thousands of pounds.
The attack took place weeks after Morris was the "driving force" behind Ms Price changing her will, the prosecution said.
"Nerys Price thought he was her loving, doting boyfriend and father of her unborn child," Mr Harrington told the jury.
"For his own wicked reasons, he had determined to kill her.
"He had begun a new relationship with another woman. He wanted out of the relationship with Nerys Price."
Mr Harrington added: "Simon Morris is not only a wicked, violent man.
"He is a greedy and grasping man because there would be a financial motive for his behaviour.
"If Nerys died, he stood to inherit hundreds of thousands of pounds."
The court heard that at the same time Morris was involved with an unnamed woman on Facebook and he had emailed her a picture of himself naked except for a towel covering his genitals.
Morris admitted betraying Ms Price but said it did not make him capable of wanting to kill her and their unborn child.
His barrister Nick Johnson QC told the court that Morris’s "greatest sin" was deceiving Ms Price and said it had made him an "easy target" for police.
The defence said a possible explanation for the break-in was intruders wanting the keys to Morris’s £16,000 American Chevrolet Corvette.
"He isn’t the sort of man you would want your sister or daughter to go out with, there’s no avoiding that," the defending barrister told the jury.
Reading from a prepared statement after the sentencing, Ms Price said: ``I am relieved that this horrific ordeal is finally over.
"Clearly, justice has been done today.
"I can finally start to rebuild my life whilst ensuring that my daughter is secure, happy and surrounded by those who love her."
Ms Price thanked her family and friends for their care and support, the staff at the hospitals where she and her daughter were treated, and the police and legal teams who worked on the prosecution and trial.
She also thanked her daughter, saying: "Finally, and certainly not least, Freya, my gorgeous bonny daughter who has made this nightmare bearable."

Father jailed after assaulting partner and her mum in front of his son
Sep 12 2009 by Suzanne Evans, South Wales Echo
A FATHER who assaulted his partner and her mother in front of his son has been jailed.
Adam David Sutton, 25, of Heol Dinas Isaf, Williamstown, Tonypandy, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm upon Bethan Louise Stanton, fracturing her nose, and assaulting Carole Stanton causing her actual bodily harm, and criminal damage.
Prosecuting at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, Jane Rowley said Sutton and Bethan Stanton had been in a six-year relationship and had a son, Harley. During the attack Harley had pleaded with his dad “stop hitting Mammy”.
On May 5, Sutton, who had been home looking after Harley, attacked Ms Stanton when she arrived home from work. Sutton, described by his partner as possessive, argued with her and she telephoned her mother.
The couple were outside as he physically attacked Ms Stanton, punching her and grabbing her around the throat pushing her backwards against the car, telling her: “You’ve done it now.”
He had her in a headlock before punching her three times.
Sutton continued hitting the back of her head as their son watched, pleading. When Carole Stanton arrived, she screamed at Sutton who then assaulted her, and she fell. He drove off.
Both victims were treated at Royal Glamorgan Hospital – Ms Stanton for a broken nose and her mother for grazing.
Jeremy Jenkins, defending Sutton, who has a previous conviction for battery, said it was a “bad example” of domestic violence.
Jailing Sutton for 12 months, Judge John Curran called the offence a “disgraceful and terrifying” episode.

Son, 5, found 'murdered' mother
Hayley Jones 'wouldn't wake up,' her son, Kian Lewis, five, told the court
The five-year-old son of a man accused of murdering his partner has told a jury how he found his mother's body on the floor of their family living room.
Kian Lewis said it "all went quiet" after his father Brian Lewis, 31, rowed with mother-of-four Hayley Jones, 26.
Mr Lewis, of New Tredegar, Caerphilly county, denies stabbing and strangling Ms Jones after she changed her Facebook status from "married" to "single".
He wept as Kian gave evidence by a video link at Cardiff Crown Court.
The court has heard Kian was in bed as he heard his parents arguing downstairs and was sitting on the top of the stairs with brother Jordan, seven, when he heard his mother screaming: "No Charlie, no Charlie, I love you."
The court was told he then heard it go quiet before his father called the police to say: "I have killed my girlfriend."
Kian said: "I called if I could go for a wee. There was no answer so we went downstairs and saw mam lying on the floor.
Sobbed
"There was blood in her mouth and on her T-shirt. I was pushing her but she wouldn't wake up."
The prosecution alleges Mr Lewis attacked his partner with a kitchen knife in the middle of the night as she was sleeping on the settee at their home.
It is claimed then dialled 999 and told police to come to the house but fled the scene, leaving the couple's four children - aged from three to 10 - to find their mother's body, before giving himself up.
Mr Lewis was handed tissues by court staff as he sobbed during his son's video evidence.
The court has heard Mr Lewis accused his partner of chatting up other men online just an hour before he allegedly attacked her.
The jury has heard that he had earlier told his drinking friends that if he could not have her, no-one else would, because "I'd kill her first".
The couple had been together since Ms Jones was 13.
The court has heard they never married but regarded themselves as husband and wife.
She changed her Facebook status 10 days before she died.
Mr Lewis denies murder. The trial continues.

A FATHER who physically abused his two children was jailed yesterday - after the youngsters called in police themselves.
Newport crown court heard the Newport 34-year-old:
- Hit his son with a broom handle for not tidying his room;
- Punched the boy after accusing him of smoking;
- Slammed on the brakes in his car while his then seven-year-old daughter was in the front seat without a seatbelt after she asked to go to the toilet - meaning the girl slammed her head against his windscreen;
- Threw the girl to the floor after she fell asleep on a sofa and threw a video at her when her wardrobe was untidy.
- Made her stand on one leg with her arms outstretched, telling her if she moved he would hit her.
The father admitted eight counts of cruelty to a person under 16, four against his son, four against his daughter, and was jailed for 22 months.
Prosecutor Leighton Hughes said the offences took place between June 2003 and January 2008, after the children were put in their father’s care while their mother was being investigated by social services.
Mr Hughes said the children asked the police to stop them living with their father and getting hurt all the time and the son told officers their dad could not be bothered to care for them.
Andrew Jones, mitigating, said the man took over the care of the children at “a very difficult time for everyone” and he “bitterly regrets his inability to provide the support and proper care that they needed.”
Judge David Morris told the defendant: “Every parent knows children can be provocative and annoying and can present major difficulties, but nevertheless every parent needs to know that a father who resorts to this kind of violence is nothing more than a coward and a bully.”
The man was sentenced to 12 months for the offences against his son and a consecutive 10 months for those involving his daughter.
He was also disqualified from working with children.
