WORCESTER — Leslie Schuler pleaded guilty this morning to the killing of his 7-year-old son on Father's Day 2009. The case against Mr. Schuler, 41, was expected to go to trial today but the defendant agreed to plead guilty to second-degree murder.

He was facing a first-degree murder charge.

Mr. Schuler, formerly of 13 Arline St., is alleged to have fatally beaten his son, Nathaniel Turner, after the child came to Worcester from Alabama to spend the summer with him. The boy was living with his grandmother in Alabama.

Relatives of the boy were in court this morning. Some wept as details of the case were read aloud.

Formal sentencing was scheduled for Thursday. It is expected he will get a life sentence with possibility of parole after 15 years.

Tiffany Hyman, Mr. Schuler's girlfriend at the time, is awaiting assault charges in the case.
