Dad charged after son left in truck while dad watches tv at sports bar (Fort Myers, Florida)

Dad DONALD CHRISTIAN ROMBOUGH has been charged after leaving his crying 6-year-old son alone inside his truck while he went to a sports bar to watch a pay-per-view Ultimate Fighting Championship. Dad has also been nailed for pot possession.

This really sounds like a custody/visitation situation. Daddy had hoped to have Grandma babysit, but she was unable to? Where's Mom?

Man charged with child neglect after deputies say he left son in hot truck while in sports bar

FORT MYERS — A man accused of leaving his young son in a truck late Saturday so he could watch an Ultimate Fighting Championship at a local sports bar was charged with child neglect.

Donald Christian Rombough, 26, of the 3700 block of Tropical Point Drive, St. James City, also was charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. He remained Monday in Lee County Jail pending posting of $9,500 in bonds.

According to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office report:

At 11:10 p.m. Saturday, deputies were called to Stevie Tomatoes Sports Bar, 11491 S. Cleveland Ave., by a security officer after two women heard the truck’s alarm and saw the boy, 6, crying hysterically inside.

The boy said his father was inside Hooters. The security officer went to the truck to try to find the boy’s parents’ information but found a cellular telephone and a marijuana pipe.

Medical personnel said he was sweating profusely and slightly dehydrated. Before the deputy’s arrival, the boy’s father came out, asked what happened and said he had to get back inside because he had food waiting.

The father came back out, told the deputy he planned to leave the boy with his grandmother, but couldn’t and had made plans to watch the championship match on pay-per-view. His son fell asleep en route to the sports bar, so he left the boy inside the truck with the windows partially down. The outside temperature was 83 degrees with 85 percent humidity. It was not known how long the boy was inside the car.
