Dad of murdered baby now fights murder for hire charge (Montgomery, Alabama)

We posted a case like this from Illinois recently. That daddy was in jail for killing his infant daughter, and tried to do a little murder-for-hire deal from behind bars--just to take care of some loose ends, ya know. It's not specified here whether dad JONATHAN KATAN was trying to "take care of" witnesses or the baby's mother or somebody else. But you sure get the idea this isn't a very likable guy.

INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT: Note that there is no mention of a mother here. And that none of the earlier posts mention a mother either. What happened to Mom? Is this a single dad or what?

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Police in Montgomery say a man charged earlier this year with capital murder in the death of his 2-year-old son is now charged with attempting to hire someone to murder an acquaintance.

Montgomery Police Department spokesman Keith Barnett says an informant inside the jail notified authorities that Jonathan Katan was trying to make contact with someone he would pay to murder the unidentified acquaintance.

Barnett says that after an undercover investigation, Katan was charged with solicitation on a bond of $60,000.

Katan was charged in February in the death of his 2-year-old son, Preston, who was found dead in Katan's home. An autopsy showed the child died of blunt force injuries to the head.

Katan still insists his son died accidentally. Authorities have not said whether or not the two cases are connected.
