Dad facing charges in stabbing of 6-year-old son (Perkasie, Pennsylvania)

Dad RODERICK M. MUIR II has been arrested for stabbing his 6-year-old son three times because the boy had the NERVE to ask if he could go to the carnival. Imagine that! A six-year-old boy who wanted to go to a carnival! Who ever heard of such a thing! (Sarcasm alert for my sarcasm-impaired readers). Anyway, given that Daddy has a criminal record, this isn't especially unprecedented behavior. And check this out--we're already laying down the grounds for a mental health "get out of jail free" card. Hearing voices from your stereo? Smart move, Dad!

INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT: And while this "crazy" unemployed daddy with a criminal record was babysitting, where was Mom? Working? Or does this idiot have custody?

A Perkasie man stabbed his 6-year-old son three times with a knife after becoming angry when the boy asked if he could go to a carnival last week, according to court records.

Roderick M. Muir II, a 35-year-old with a criminal past that includes convictions for harassment and recklessly endangering another person, now faces charges of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and possessing an instrument of crime.

"These were definitely stab wounds, not just cuts," said prosecutor Jennifer M. Schorn, chief of the major crimes division for the Bucks County District Attorney's Office. "The facts of this case are horrendous."

The alleged stabbing occurred in a bedroom in Muir's home on Rustic Drive in Perkasie on Thursday evening.

When the boy asked to go to a local fire company carnival, Muir took out a knife and stabbed the child on his leg first, then finger and wrist, the boy told police.

"(The boy) stated that he was very scared and it hurt a lot," police said in a criminal complaint.

The child was treated at Grand View Hospital for wounds to his calf, wrist and index finger, records said. The boy spoke with police after the incident and is in stable condition now, authorities said.

Muir told investigating officers that he was hearing voices and that his stereo, which he had been fixing, was talking to him prior to officers' arrival, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Muir told police he had not slept since June 27 and that he had run out of his medication several days prior to the alleged stabbing. Police did not say what type of medication Muir was taking.

Muir's father was at the home when the alleged incident occurred.

He told police he heard his grandson crying upstairs and went to investigate. He found the boy, bleeding and crying, in the corner of a bedroom where Muir was sitting on the bed, said records.

Muir's father told Muir that the boy needed to go to a hospital, but Muir said the boy was fine and did not need to go, said records. The grandfather spent about a half-hour tending to the child's wounds before taking him to the hospital, a criminal complaint said.

Muir had been stressed because he had lost his job, his father stated, according to records.
