Infant girl dies after Dad's rough play (North Las Vegas, Nevada)

Dad KEVIN RAY TAYLOR is one clueless f---. He thought he was "toughtening up" a 1-year-old baby by throwing her into the wall? That this was just "rough play"? Note that this idiot was already on probation for child abuse from the year before--not a quick study, this one.

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The father of a 1-year-old girl who died Tuesday after suffering several broken bones and cerebral bleeding told police he played rough with his children so they wouldn’t be taken advantage of when they’re grown, a police report said.

The rough play the infant girl’s father, Kevin Ray Taylor, recounted to police included throwing his daughter against a wall that was lined with pillows.

North Las Vegas police arrested Taylor, 20, of Las Vegas on June 4 for child abuse and neglect with substantial bodily harm. Taylor was on parole for child abuse with substantial bodily harm in 2009.

Since Kaitlynn died after Taylor's arrest, police said they expect to upgrade the charge to murder by child abuse.

Taylor told police he was hitting his daughter, 1-year-old Kaitlynn Taylor, with a pillow when she began to cry. Her body then went limp, Taylor told police.

He said he tried to shake Kaitlynn gently and then pour water on her but she would not respond, the report said.

When police told Taylor that Kaitlynn’s injuries could not have come from a pillow, Taylor told police the injuries could have come from how rough he played with his infant daughter.

Police then asked Taylor to use a doll as Kaitlynn and a table as the bed to demonstrate how he would play with the baby.

Holding the doll by an arm and leg, Taylor told police he would swing Kaitlynn like a merry-go-round while he was standing, and throw her on a bed and pillows that are lined up against a wall, the report said.

Taylor then showed police how he would forcefully push Kaitlynn’s face in a bed, using enough force that after Kaitlynn was pushed down, she would elevate off the bed from the mattress’ spring recoil, the police report said.

He also showed police how he would push Kaitlynn’s head back hard while she was sitting on the bed, forcing her to fall back on the bed, the report said.

Taylor said he would also toss Kaitlynn in the air and catch her, and said her injuries could have come from that, the report said.

When police asked Taylor if his daughter showed any signs of being in pain from the rough play, he said Kaitlynn would cry when he or her mother would pick her up.

This is the 9th murder in North Las Vegas so far this year, police said.
