INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT: No mention of a mother at all. Was Dad babysitting? Why did he take the "unresponsive" baby to the grandmother?
Did some additional research and it turns out that he was babysitting. It was Mom's VERY FIRST DAY BACK AT WORK. See here for additional information: http://www.thestate.com/2010/06/09/1324495/irmo-man-gets-life-sentence-in.html

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - An Irmo man received the maximum sentence for shaking his son to death.
Assistant Solicitor Debra Moore said 24-year-old Alexander Edward Lynch was sentenced to life in prison for homicide by child abuse by Lexington Judge Knox McMahon.
On June 6, 2009, Lynch shook his son because he would not stop crying, Lynch admitted. The baby, Rashard Lynch, was only 57 days old.
Lynch said he put the infant on the bed and went outside to smoke a cigarette. When he returned, he found the infant unresponsive. He took his son to the grandmother who lived in the same apartment complex.
A neighbor attempted CPR on the infant until Lexington County EMS personnel arrived. The baby was transported to Lexington Medical Center. A CT scan showed "devastating brain injury. The infant was transferred to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital. He died June 8, 2009.
"I will never understand how a father could wreak such pain, suffering and death to his son," Solicitor Donnie Myers said.
