Dad charged with 1st-degree assault in abuse of infant daughter (Big Lake, Minnesota)

The usual scenario. A young father--with self-confessed "anger issues" no less--is "left alone" with his infant daughter for several hours. Somehow in this time period, the baby develops abusive head trauma--of course, we don't quite know why yet, because UNNNAMED DAD is so busy spinning out new stories and explanations that no one can figure out what really happened.

A 24-year-old Big Lake man was recently charged with first-degree assault and third-degree assault for suspect child abuse.

On April 26 investigators from the Criminal Investigation Division at the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office received information that 4.5 month old infant was seen at the Minneapolis Children’s Hospital for a case of suspected abuse.

According to the report, the infant has injuries consistent with abusive head trauma.

Sheriff Joel Brott said investigators were able to determine that the father of the child was left alone with he baby for a few hours prior to the infant’s injuries occurring.

In addition, when investigators interview the 24-year-old father, he told them a number of different stories as to how the baby became injuries, Brott said.

Eventually the father said he did have anger issues and that he dropped the baby on her head when he lost his footing.

However, doctors from the Minneapolis Children’s Hospital said the injuries suffered by the infant were not consistent with being dropped on a carpeted floor.
