A 54-year-old Humboldt County man is behind bars on charges he fatally shot his 29-year-old daughter inside a home where his grandchildren were present, said Undersheriff Curtiss Kull.
Lenore Warren died about 7 a.m. Monday at Renown Regional Medical Center, where she had been taken Sunday evening via medical helicopter.
Kull said she was allegedly shot by her father, Leo Hunter Jr., about 11:15 p.m., Sun., in a home north of Winnemucca, off of U.S. Highway 95 North. Hunter lived there with his wife, Warren and her two children, 6 and 9.
Investigators on Monday were still trying to piece together what led to the fatal shooting. Kull said the children were not harmed during the incident, and that deputies were not sure if they had witnessed the incident.
Deputies had responded to the home after receiving a 911 call reporting a shooting. They saw Warren on the floor, and began rendering aide. Hunter had met with the deputies outside and was booked on charges ranging from assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery related to a battery on Hunter’s wife, child endangerment and battery causing substantial bodily harm.
Hunter was charged additionally with murder Monday after Warren passed away, Kull said.
