Wis. Man Pleads No Contest For Infant's Fractures

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (AP) ― A 25-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man has pleaded no contest to charges that he broke multiple bones of his 2-month-old daughter.

Joshua J. Werner was found guilty Friday of child abuse and second-degree reckless injury. The Daily Tribune says a second child-abuse count was dismissed.

Wood County district attorney Craig Lambert says he plans to seek the maximum sentence, which is nine years in prison.

The criminal complaint say a hospital contacted police in 2008 about the possible abuse of a baby who had a broken leg. Doctors eventually found 22 fractures, including a spinal injury and rib fractures.

Defense attorney Richard Bender says he plans to present a video at the sentencing hearing to provide evidence of the girl's current condition.
