Kilkenny father and son charged with animal cruelty

A father and son appeared in Kilkenny District Court charged with animal cruelty at their farm in South Kilkenny.
Simon O'Dwyer (snr) and Simon O'Dwyer (jnr) with an address at Knockmoylon, Mullinavat are both charged with two counts of animal cruelty on their lands at Knockmoylon, Mullinavat on dates between January and March of this year.
They are also charged with failing to dispose of animal carcasses. The charges relate to a number of horses and cattle.
Inspector Aidan Brennan told the court that there was a degree or urgency in getting a hearing date before the winter.Defending solicitor Michael Lanigan applied for a hearing date for the case and told the court there would be extensive veterinary evidence and evidence from an animal welfare officer given on that date.Judge William Hartnett adjourned the case for hearing to September 24
