Balcony leap dad out free; 6-year-old son thrown to his death (United Kingdom)

You may remember this case from four years ago. Dad JOHN HOGAN was all distraught from his "marriage problems," so he leaped off a 4th story balcony with his two young children. The 6-year-old son was killed. But somehow the fruitcake father and the 2-year-old daughter survived. Well, Daddy's gonna be doing no jail time for all that. He's not even in a mental institution. Nope. Though he played the mental illness card big time, he's walking around free now. Ain't life grand! Don't remember seeing that Andrea Yates is out walking around in the sunshine eating chocolate. And the fathers rights people say that moms monopolize the mental health card--not even close. I just hope this idiot doesn't try to establish visitation with the surviving daughter. As it is, the mother fears that she cannot return to the UK out of concern for her surviving child.

Balcony leap dad out free
Killer father John Hogan's new life

By Dominic Herbert, 06/06/2010

BALCONY plunge dad John Hogan munches on a choc bar, enjoying the sunshine as a free man ... just four years after he threw six-year-old son Liam to his death.

Our exclusive picture of the man at the centre of the tragic Greek hotel drama is the first of him settling into a new relaxed everyday life since his controversial return to the UK last June.

The world was horrified after anguished former tiler Hogan, 37, leaped from the family's fourth-floor Crete apartment with Liam and two-year-old daughter Mia.

Liam was killed by massive head injuries but miraculously Mia survived and now lives with mum Natasha, 37, in Australia.

Troubled Hogan, who also suffered severe injuries, was sensationally cleared of murder after a Greek court accepted he was temporarily insane and had suffered "an earthquake of psychosis" over marriage problems.

After treatment at an Athens psychiatric hospital he flew home to Britain last year with NO conviction and under NO restrictions. Our picture shows how things have gone so well for him he is now having days out unsupervised, living a normal life at a secret location in the West Country.
He could be anyone in the crowd. Only his pronounced limp, caused by the leg injuries, gives a clue to his tragic past. But the once gaunt and agonised look has gone.

When he was flown home he was initially placed in a psychiatric hospital. But we can reveal he was recently transferred to a low security NHS mental health unit and has visited relatives.

A shopper who saw him out with a pretty blonde, loading a Sainsbury's trolley with barbecue food, said: "Hogan was very relaxed... laughing and joking. He obviously knew this woman well."

With a fresh inquest into Liam's death yet to be held, a source close to Hogan's ex revealed: "Natasha feels she's never been able to get justice for Liam. She's remarried and building a good life for Mia in Australia but feels trapped, unable to come home. It seems John now has the freedom to enjoy life with those closest to him but Natasha has to live with the emotional scars forever on the other side of the world."
