After 8 years, killer dad finally accepts plea deal in death of infant son (Collier County, Florida)
Eight years after he was first arrested and charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse, Jesus Rey Machado Friday accepted a plea deal for 13 years in prison on a lesser charge.
“The court is happy to see that it’s been resolved,” said Collier County Circuit Judge Frederick Hardt. “It should have been resolved a long time ago.”
Machado was the subject of a Daily News story that ran this month highlighting the county’s longer-than-average completion times for child homicide cases in the court system.
Arrested in 2007, Machado was accused of shaking his infant son to death. Machado has said he shook his son to stop one of his seizure episodes and pinched him in an effort to wake the boy, leaving bruises all over his body.
