A man suspected of hiding in a back yard in Interlachen led deputies to a father suspected of manufacturing methamphetamine in the home where he is raising two children.
Deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the 100 block of Jackson Terrace on Monday after a homeowner spotted a man trying to hide in a back yard. Once they caught up with the 27-year-old man, deputies said he told them he spent Sunday night smoking methamphetamine at another home on the block. According to the man, the meth was being cooked by a man named Danny and another man, and that two children were there while the drug was being made.
Deputies went to the home the man identified. There they met and subsequently arrested the homeowner, Danny Emerson Grimm, 36.
According to a news release issued by the Sheriff’s Office, deputies found evidence inside the home that methamphetamine had recently been manufactured there. Deputies said there was also evidence that an 8-year-old and a 13-year-old were in the house at the time.
Grimm was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of listed chemicals, possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of child abuse.
The children were taken to the Putnam Community Medical Center where they were medically cleared and then turned over to the care of the Department of Children and Family Services.
