Custodial dad sexually and physically abused kid over 14 years while authorities did nothing (Northern Ireland)

This is just a classic example of how mothers are erased from stories involving abusive custodial dads. Notice that UNNAMED DAD's "marriage" just sort of "broke up" on its own, with no people in sight. Particularly no mother. How and why did the kids end up in a children's home? Not explained. Mother incapable of caring for them? Mother just "disappeared"? Mother deceased? Apparently her fate is of no interest to the reporter, as he or she just lets the matter slide. Never mind that it's extremely likely that Mum got the same treatment, which makes her subsequent omission from these children's lives highly suspicious. Especially when the father is a controlling, systematic abuser veering into torture.

Derry father jailed for 10 years for abusing his three children

Judge jails man for ‘harrowing catalogue of physical abuse which makes difficult reading’

A Derry man has been jailed for more than 10 years for the sexual and physical abuse of three children.

At Derry Crown Court, Judge Philip Babington described as disturbing how reports were made to the police and to social workers about the abuse, but no action was taken at the time.

He jailed the 60-year-old man for for 10 and a half years for what a probation officer described as “a harrowing catalogue of physical abuse which makes difficult reading”.

The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to three charges of child cruelty against his daughter and two sons, guilty to two charges of common assault and guilty to seven charges of forcing his daughter to perform sex acts on him, starting when she was aged six.

He committed the offences in the family’s Co Derry home over a 14-year period starting in March 1980.

The defendant’s three children were placed in a children’s home in England following the break-up of his marriage.

However, in the late 1970s he removed his children from the home and brought them back to Northern Ireland where he started to abuse them.

A prosecution barrister said the abuser, a former British soldier, lined up his children “like mini soldiers” and beat them with a brass poker, a brush staff and with a belt. He threatened to kill them if they reported the abuse to the authorities.

On one occasion when his primary school daughter tried to fight back, her father pinned her against the living room wall and grabbed her by the neck, forcing her to “slid down the wall like a sack of potatoes” before forcing her to perform a sex act on him.

On another occasion the young girl tried to flee her father by climbing out of a window but he caught her and, said Judge Babington, “battered the life out of her with a poker”.

A victim impact report from one of the boys abused said: “It was like at times that all of us, the three children, were in the military. Disobedience or defiance was immediately responded to by a beating. I would say that literally we were brought up like slaves.”

The abuser’s daughter, in her victim impact report said her father ran the house like an army camp and everyone had to do what he said or be beaten. “No compassion was ever shown by him, he expected uncompromising obedience with no resistance,” she said.

Judge Babington said when the abuser was interviewed by the police about the allegations in April 2014, he described his childrens’ allegations as “ridiculous and lies. He suggested they had collaborated together and described himself as “a great father”. However, on the morning his trial began last month, he admitted all 12 offences.

“It seems that the boys were subjected to physical abuse from the ages of three and four and in the case of one it lasted some 12 years and in respect of the other brother it lasted for some 13 years,” the judge said. “As far as his daughter was concerned, she suffered physical abuse for some 10 years and sexual abuse for some seven years”, he said.

“The sexual abuse was bound up with physical abuse, both threatened and actually carried out. She was told she would be killed if she said anything.

She says she was terrified of her father. “ The actual sexual abuse was particularly violent and disgusting. It is clear that the defendant treated her and her two brothers in ways that are difficult to believe let alone understand,” Judge Babington added.

“Even more disturbing was the fact that injuries were observed by other adults and reports made to police and social workers but no action was taken,” he said.

As well as jailing the abuser, Judge Babington also placed him on the Sex Offender’s Register for an indefinite period and imposed a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, also for an indefinite period.

Hardin father pleads not guilty in death of 6-month-old son

BENTON, Ky. (AP) - A Hardin father has pleaded not guilty in the death of his 6-month-old son.

The Paducah Sun (http://bit.ly/1F3BGER) reports 30-year-old John Mikulich IV pleaded not guilty Monday on a wanton murder charge after his son died at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville.

Mikulich was arrested March 14 after Marshall authorities found the baby floating in a bathtub. The child survived for 11 days in a coma before being taken off life support.

At a preliminary hearing, Marshall County sheriff's detective Matt Hillbrecht testified that Mikulich had been under the influence of some type of drug while watching the baby and his 2-year-old brother.

Hillbrecht says Mikulich changed his story several times when explaining why the baby was in the bathtub.

The charge of wanton murder carries a possible life sentence.

Custodial dad jailed for stabbing death of 1-year-old daughter (Richlands, North Carolina)

Once again, you have to wonder whether ANTHONY WAYNE YOUNG is a single father. Lots of showy stuff performed for the neighbors, of Daddy playing with the little girl outside--just a day before he (allegedly) stabbed her to death. NOT ONE mention of a mother in the home or anywhere else.

What happened to Mom?

Update: Confirmed here that father had LEGAL CUSTODY. And check this out: "Young has a criminal record in North Carolina, including drug convictions in 1995, 2001 and 2008, according to information from N.C. Department of Public Safety." Who the hell thought it was a good idea to give this father custody of an infant girl?

Father Charged in Death of Infant Daughter
By Amanda Wilcox Updated Monday, May 4, 2015 at 04:59 PM EDT

RICHLANDS - In a quiet country neighborhood on the outskirts of town, the Onslow County Sheriff said a father murdered his one-year-old daughter early Sunday morning.

Anthony Wayne Young, 37, is being held in the Onslow County jail without bond, after Sheriff Hans Miller said the suspect called 911 early Sunday morning to admit to killing his daughter, Ruby Young.

"It appears that the cause of the death was severe loss of blood, of that little child, from a single laceration. There was blood at the scene,” said Miller.

Miller said the suspected murder weapon is a kitchen knife. He said they are still investigating a motive.

"Regardless of what the motive may be in the murder, it's not a proper thing to do, to take the life of a small child," Miller said.

Brett Futrell, who lives nextdoor, said he was surprised to hear Young was accused of murdering his daughter.

"Day before yesterday he was outside playing for hours with his daughter, picking flowers, and it just was a surprise to me," said Futrell, who has a two-year-old son himself.

Monday, Futrell and his son played outside among the crime scene tape draping through the trees of his property line. His young boy was unaware of the tragedy that happened next door.

"When I found out about it, I started crying," Futrell said. "I said I couldn't take it, because the first thing I thought about was [my son]. And it just drove me crazy. I couldn't deal with something like that."

The crime scene tape remained up most of the day Monday, as deputies continued to investigate and remove evidence from the scene, while an autopsy was being performed on the baby.

"We feel sorry for the loss of that little child, for no reason whatsoever," Miller said. Young was scheduled to make a first appearance at the Onslow County courthouse Monday, but court official said Young's attorney appeared for him instead.

The attorney said he was not in the right mental state to appear before a judge.

Saudi father burns daughter who asked to see her mom

By Saudi Gazette | Jeddah Wednesday, 6 May 2015

A Saudi father was accused of burning his 4-year-old daughter with a lighter after she asked to see her mother, whom he is divorced from.

The ex-wife reported to police that the man was physically and emotionally abusing their child Elana, the local newspaper Al-Watan reported. A source said the mother also claimed that her daughter’s stepmother abused the girl as well.

The source said: “The mother said she got married when she was 20 and her husband started abusing her a year and a half after giving birth to their daughter.

“She reported that he locked her out of the house late at night and locked her in the bathroom until she demanded a divorce.”

The source added the mother remarried and was able to regularly see her daughter before her ex-husband filed a custody case and won, preventing her from seeing her daughter since.

“The mother lived with her husband in Madinah but after her ex-husband won the custody case he remarried and moved to Jeddah. The mother divorced her second husband to live in Jeddah and be able to see her daughter. ”

The source also said the mother saw the burns on her daughter’s left arm on one of her visits. “The mother took her daughter to hospital and reported the father and his wife to police.

“The father admitted that he caused the burn but said he only meant to scare her and not actually burn her.” Elana’s lawyer and legal consultant Assim Al-Mulla said child abuse is one of the most serious offenses in Saudi Arabia.

“Offenders are subjected to a fine of up to SR50,000 in addition to a year in prison. “The father’s case is currently at the Penal Court. We will not rest until the father and any other relative in the family who has abused her receive the maximum punishment as listed by the law.” This article was first published in the Saudi Gazette on May 6, 2015. HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - A 2-year-old boy is in the hospital after Precinct 1 deputy constables found cigarette burns on the child's body.

Investigators were called out the the Villages of Inwood Apartments in the 5700 block of West Mount Houston Tuesday for a welfare check at the request of the boy's grandmother.

Deputy constables arrested the boy's father for outstanding warrants, but believe he is responsible for the child's injuries.

Investigators say the child had multiple cigarette burns on his torso and chin. They rushed him to Texas Children's Hospital.

Neighbors say three children lived in the home and the family moved in just a few months ago.

They say the father worked as the apartment maintenance man.

Residents said they were disturbed by the allegations.

"That's people that shouldn't have kids at all," said neighbor Jessica Ventura.

Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen said the father could be charged with child abuse once doctors complete their examination of the boy.
