A 7-month-old baby is in critical condition from a head injury in a suspected child abuse case in Pontiac.

Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Royal Oak Beaumont hospital to meet with Children’s Protective Services regarding a suspected child abuse around 9:21 a.m. Thursday.

The 7-month-old baby boy had been transferred from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac with severe head injuries. The child’s father stated he accidentally bumped the child’s head on a railing at a residence on the 60 block of Leonard Lane in Pontiac, according to a report released by the sheriff’s office.

The baby is in critical condition at this time.

Detectives responded to investigate the call and the father and mother were transported to the Pontiac substation for questioning. The father, an 18-year-old Pontiac resident, was lodged at Oakland County Jail on an unrelated warrant, while the mother was released.

An investigation is ongoing.
