Dad almost kills 15-month-old son during overnight visitation (Charlotte, North Carolina)

Once again, we see the folly in promoting visitation--especially overnight visitation--between never married sperm donors and babies and toddlers. Dad COREY JOHNSON almost killed this child, apparently while he was teething and cranky.

Man accused of abusing his 15-month-old son

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say 33-year-old Corey Johnson didn't spend a lot of time with his son, but their last visit almost cost the 15-month-old his life.

Police say that Johnson came to Monroe Sunday to pick up his son for an overnight visit. He took him to his Charlotte apartment and that's where investigators think abuse occurred.

Officers say the father told them and the mother that the child fell out of the bed, but his injuries were so serious that CMC Union had him airlifted to CMC main.

“This has broken our heart," said Suzy Rogers, a close friend of the victim's mother.

The child remains in critical but stable condition after suffering from bleeding on his brain and abdomen.

The parents aren't married and court records show that the father had only kept his son for three nights since birth. The mother says the child may have been teething when he was with his dad.

Rogers says the mother is an excellent parent and she feels for her.
