Father "tripped" with infant son, now baby dead (Orangeburg, South Carolina)

Father ANWAR YOUNG is just another one of those goofy, clumsy dads who says he "tripped" over a phone cord while carrying his infant son. So then he "got angry" and shook the baby--'cause we all know that it must have been the baby's fault that dad is clumsy. The baby died of bleeding of the brain. It seems, however, that the police aren't buying this clumsy dad schtick, because a warrant for homicide by child abuse has been obtained against the father.

Father faces charges in infant's death

An Orangeburg man is in custody in connection with the death of his infant son. Police say 31-year-old Anwar Young of 1077 Crosscreek Road is expected to appear in court today to be advised of his rights. A warrant for homicide by child abuse has been obtained against him.

Law enforcement officials were notified Sunday that an Orangeburg child had been taken to Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital in Columbia.

The child, one of a pair of twins born March 29, had been initially transported to the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg around 1:40 p.m. Sunday.

Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Thomas Brown said the child was declared dead at 3:30 a.m. Monday. Orangeburg County Coroner Samuetta Marshall could not be reached for comment Monday.

However, the warrant against Young indicates the cause of death has been determined to be, “bleeding on the brain, which resulted in the child dying.”

Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office met the parents of the child at their Crosscreek Road home after learning they had left the hospital.

State Law Enforcement Division crime scene investigators were called in to analyze the residence and collect any potential evidence.

Investigators questioned a man at the home, who said that around 6 a.m. he was going to a bathroom while carrying the child when he tripped over a telephone cord, according to a Sheriff’s Office incident report.

“He stated that he got angry and shook him,” the report said. “He stated at that time, the baby stopped crying immediately.”

At that point, the man placed the infant on a bed and entered the bathroom to wash his face.

“He stated that when he came out of the bathroom, he saw a blood bubble in the baby’s nose and he started CPR,” the report continues.The man then called 911.
