Father closer to trial in the 2005 "disappearance" of his six-year-old daughter (Aurora, Colorado)

Father AARON THOMPSON may finally be going to trial for the "disappearance" (read: murder) of his six-year-old daughter in 2005. Check out the 2005 article posted at the end for more information: Thompson basically kidnapped the daughter (and a son) away from their mother in 2001. The mother, who lives Michigan, had never been able to determine the children's whereabouts.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys are inching closer to a trial for an Aurora man accused in the 2005 disappearance of his daughter, who is presumed dead.

Aaron Thompson and his defense team were in Arapahoe County District Court on Tuesday for the first in a series of hearings this week leading up to his Aug. 3 trial.

Thompson was indicted in 2007 on counts that include fatal child abuse in the disappearance of his daughter Aarone. She would have been 6 when Thompson reported her missing in November 2005.

Authorities say Aarone may have died as early as 2003, but her body has not been found.

Here's an article from 2005, that explains more about Thompson.

DETROIT - The mother of a missing 6-year-old girl who police now fear is dead, spoke with our NBC affiliate station in Detroit Thursday.

Lynette Thompson lives in a homeless shelter in that city. The last time she saw her 11-year-old son Aaron and daughter Aarone was four years ago.

"I got to hold my daughter, I got to talk to my daughter on October 22, 2001," she said.

Thompson said that as soon as she heard her daughter was missing, and hadn't been enrolled in school, she felt something was wrong.

"I told them (police) you better start digging up back yards," she said.

"I can't even find the words right now to say how I feel," she continued. "I'm shocked, for one. That's one. And I'm also shocked, that this is his daughter that we had together. I don't understand what could have happened, what kind of rage, I don't know the details, was she beat, did she snap, what happened?"

Police in Aurora, Colorado say they believe that Aarone may have been murdered over a year ago. Her father Aaron Thompson, 38, and his girlfriend are under investigation. Police are calling them "persons of interest."

Lynette Thompson says she tried repeatedly to find out where her ex-husband had taken the children, but her mother-in-law wouldn't tell her. She says she's now going to try and get custody of her son and bring him back to Michigan.
