KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — A jury has found a 41-year-old Kalamazoo man guilty of first-degree murder and child abuse in the death of his 2-year-old son.
The Kalamazoo County Circuit Court jury deliberated about two hours before finding Brian K. Roberts guilty on all counts Thursday.
Authorities say Kalamazoo police officers found Nehemiah Dodd unconscious Dec. 31, 2013. The boy died two days later.
Roberts originally pleaded guilty to second-degree murder but then withdrew the plea. Second-degree murder carries a sentence of up to life in prison with parole possible, while first-degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence without parole.
Judge Paul J. Bridenstiner has scheduled Roberts’ sentencing April 27.
