Father pleads guilty to infant son's murder

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A Brunswick County man has pleaded guilty to killing his infant son more than a year ago.

Randy Lee Richardson pleaded guilty to one count of second degree murder and felony child abuse in connection with the death of Colton Richardson, who was four months old when he died.

Investigators say Colton died from head trauma, and that his father confessed to shaking the infant on May 28, 2013. At the time of his arrest, Richardson's attorney said the boy died five days after the incident.

Richardson was originally charged with first degree murder.

A judge will sentence Richardson for his crime Nov. 17. Richardson will stay in jail for the time being.
