Father smashes baby girl to death

ISLAMABAD - A 5-month-old girl was allegedly smashed to death by her father in the middle of heated parental quarrel here, reported a private TV channel on Tuesday.

“On the face of it the infant succumbed to a seething tiff between two spouses,” sources told media. The tragic news left everyone aghast in the locality. “The commotion the brawling couple kicked up unsettled the whole neighbourhood while their baby daughter lay on the bed watching her parents tear each other apart in muted horror,” sources quoted a neighbour as saying.

According to police, the husband lost his nerve and allegedly killed the infant by crashing her to the concrete floor. "The child died of severe head injuries after being smashed against a hard surface," a police official said.

On the other hand, the accused, speaking from behind the bars of the lockup, protested his innocence. “I swear I did not dump her on the floor, she just fell down accidentally. I can’t be sorrier. Please forgive me.” a remorseful father of the deceased baby pleaded.

Further investigation is underway.
