"Primary caregiver" dad charged with assault of infant daughter (La Loche, Saskatchewan, Canada)

UNNAMED DAD, a so-called "primary caretaker" who raised the baby "ever since that kid was born," has been charged with aggravated assault. Mom is in custody too, though why this is so isn't explained. But then mothers are held responsible for everything, even when they didn't do anything. Had a "primary caretaker" mother assaulted her child, it is very unlikely that the father would be charged.

RCMP have charged the 49-year-old man with aggravated assault, failing to provide the necessities of life and two counts of failure to comply with conditions of an undertaking.

Relatives of the accused say he is the father of the baby and was her primary caregiver.

"Ever since that kid was born (he) raised her. He always took care of her," said an aunt of the accused.

La Loche RCMP received a complaint at around 10 p.m. on Aug. 4 about a man assaulting an infant on the Clearwater River Dene Nation. Hours later, RCMP arrested the suspect.

The incident sent the baby to a local hospital for treatment. She was transferred to a Saskatoon hospital as a precaution. The girl has since been released into the care of the Meadow Lake Tribal Council and the aunt says the child is back in the care of family members.

La Loche RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Paul Dawson declined to detail the victim's injuries.

RCMP did not know if there were other children in the care of the man, said Dawson.

The man appeared in La Loche provincial court Monday and remains in custody until his next court appearance on Monday.

The aunt said the mother of the infant is also in custody at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre.
